Problem with new San Francisco Mobile showing Virgin Medea as available Network
Hi
Don't know if anyone can help me. I unlocked my new San Francisco mobile and am having problems after the unlock which was successful with unlock code etc..
I am on Virgin Media and have the sim card inserted but it says T Mobile at top right hand corner.
Now when I switch the phone on, Virgin Media is not showing as an available network it shows Vodaphone, TMobile Orange etc. Does this mean it won't work with my virgin sim.
Anyone know what I should do.
Thanks

Virgin Mobile is a virtual network which uses the T-Mobile network, so that may explain why it says T-Mobile on the phone. Have you tried using it on the T-Mobile network?0

TMobile shows on my Android instead of Virgin .
Settings and you can scan the mobile networks see if Virgin shows .
But as said above Virgin is TMobile network .

The network is provisioned on to the sim as one of the settings. It should show Virgin therefore it could be how the handset sees it so could be the handset or the sim. Quite a common fault with MVNOs. Report it to Virgin (its probably a sim issue and they may have to run a script to correct the sim provisioning and send a message update)0 -

that wouldn't have anything to do with your wifi - the APN allows you phone to use data over the phone network.
I think the APN settings are:
Homepage: http://www.virgin.com/mobile/wap/
Access Point (contract): goto.virginmobile.uk
Gateway (IP) address : 193.30.166.003
Port number: 8080
Username: user
Password: (leave blank)
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Authentication: Normal0 -
Thanks for all the help so far everyone.
I entered the APN details above, but now when I try email I get
Error Validating Phone Number.
Cannot get Internet either.
I also rang Virgin but the person I got through to really did not have a clue. Maybe I should have stuck to the basic phone LOL.
Thanks again for any help0 -

It seems to depend upon more than that > Virgin Sim in unlocked O2 phone Eclair 2.1 = TMobile
O2 Update to Froyo 2.2 same sim = now shows Virgin
Further unofficial update = TMobile .
It makes no difference the Virgin connection is ON even if TMobile shows so OP dont worry about it i been running Virgin for years with TMobile showing .
WiFi should be go Settings to WIFI settings turn on search for WIFI .
Select WIFI and enter password .

Thanks, I've tried the WIFI add option after entering password it just says unable to connect0

If the WiFi page is showing the correct router .
Does it show signal strength .
If so enter password if that fails clear password from Router and try to connect with no password at first .
Setting up my Android WiFi
Settings >> Wireless Networking
WiFi settings <<Turn on WiFi
Finds WiFi signals
Choose MY ROUTER
Enter Password
Connect
CONNECTED

What happens when you put the Orange SIM back in ?
The e-mail problem sounds like it is because you are using the Orange Mail service. As this is chargable I stopped using it on my San Francisco and deleted the icon. I use Yahoo and Googlemail specific apps for those providers and K-9 mail for "legacy" POP3 accounts.
The WiFi problem seems to be independent of the SIM issue.
I noticed a similar TMobile display when I used up some credit on a Virgin SIM in another phone a while back. It didn't seem to matter. It still worked even for internet access.0
