There's a difference between not falling for nasty tricks played by others and resorting to nasty tricks yourself.

You don't have to shaft everyone else to make sure you don't get shafted yourself.

Do unto others and all that, keeps your eyes open and your wits about you and you'll be alright in the end...

I believe in playing fair where ever possible but you cannot go through a lifetime buying and selling houses without being aware of some underhand tricks that are played by buyers, sellers and estate agents.

Estate agents who phone you up and tell you a competitor has made a higher offer and you need to increase yours. But then when you tell them you are no longer interested you get a phone call back a couple of days later to be told they have dropped out of the bidding.

Buyers who demand a reduction in the price a day or so before completion.

Sometimes I have felt sorry for sellers who have lied to me about their neighbours when it is obvious they live next door to neighbours from hell and are desperate to move.

I dont think people should take this thread too seriously. I think it is clear that the o/p is just having a harmless jape. And why not??
  • Whatever happened to being just in your transaction but clever about your business. I believe the balance is possible. Be weary of the EA the most I'd say. Avoid independant small businesses that tempt you with their low fees.

    Weary? Yes, and wary too.

As well as the small independents, avoid the large chains with corporate ethoses which are totally focussed on their bottom line. They will try and sell your buyers other services [solicitor, mortgage] and may prevent people from offering if they are not taking the services, it would seem from some of the threads here.

Take the doorbell and sky dish with you..mine done that because they were so angry with what i had paid them..They also removed a part from the boiler so it would not light..i did not mind paying £300 for a new one as i stole the house off them.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Why do people always see things as black or white? Extremes of most things tend to be bad. Compromise/the middle ground better.

By all means be religious if you want, but don't force it down others' throats.
Drink if you want, but binge drinking/puking up at 2 in the morning.......?

And capitalism? Well, actually we DON'T live in a capitalist society thank god - we have an exellent, gov-provided health service (I'll await the debate on quality here) and in the USA the Republicans described the Brits as 'communists' during the debates on Obama's health reforms.

So it's about balance. Get yourself a good price selling your property, but don't go ripping people off and leaving them feeling bitter and cheated.
  • First thing to understand is there is a world of difference between a hard negotiater and an underhand negotiater.
