Argggh snooow

Ok So I have about 4 inches of snow outside this morning - So I can only assume seeing as the world seems to stop turning every time it snows my parcels I ordered weeks and weeks ago are even less likely to turn up in time for christmas...........
It seems ridiculous I ordered something on 23rd November before all this bleeding snow happened - plenty of time for christmas, doesn't get dispatched for another 2 weeks (dispite being 24hr dispatch), now I can't bleeding query it because I need to allow 'extra' time due to the snow....so now Im allowed to query it 3 days before christmas - and then its obviously not going to magically turn up is it within 3 days is it.......

Looks like two people are going without presents this year....

  • I know exactly how you feel, I ordered goods at the start of December for Christmas and still waiting for Royal Mail to deliver. Cannot query until 28th December due to the weather causing delays! Bit late for christmas gifts isn't it!.

Hopefully someone will shove a rocket up Royal Mail's !!! and bring our deliveires in time for Christmas, wouldn't hold out much hope for any sent in last 2 weeks though :(.

To be fair they are trying, the collection offices have massively increased opening hours and some posties are trying evening deliveries of parcels.

The amount of people doing their entire Christmas shopping online these days means there is an extraordinary amount of extra mail being sent.

I placed an order with Debenhams two weeks ago it had all been delivered by Monday last week, they use the home shopping couriers and the guy in my area was working on Sunday last week, he brought me one of the pacels then. High volume of deliveries combined with bad weather don't make it easy for couriers to cope, next year start earlier perhaps? I hope the gifts arrive on time.

I know it's just the novelty, but I'm loving the snow right now. I can walk to work at my normal speed, everything looks pretty and it's so quiet. Walking home in the dark with the snow appearing to be my only light source is somewhat magical.

There were hardly any customers at work, which in the long run is bad for business, but it allowed us all to actually relax and get some much needed housekeeping that we haven't had a chance to these past few weeks. And the few customers who did come in were determined to spend a lot of money, so our takings were still above budget by a large percentage.

The novelty will wear off soon, especially when it turns to slush. But right now, it's all pretty-like.

    Here is the contrast...

The UK...a light dusting of snow

City of Syracuse in upstate New York....70 inches of snow..thats about 6 feet..

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Comparisions with the US are pointless. They have the infastructure and plans in place since that amount of snow is routine for them and happens at least 6 times every winter. Snow ploughs go out on all streets multiple times a day when it's bad, when was the last time you saw a snow plough here? They do main motorways rarely and that's it.
And since that happens to be the place my Dad works, and I myself have lived there, I know what i'm talking about.
  • We had barely any last time, and so far none this time! Yet the shops round here still sell sledges etc, no idea where they think people are going to use them, there are no hills around either.
  • I can't help thinking that, in the long run, the best thing would be to have a very long, hard winter. People would realise that they can't just hide away every time it snows, that they actually can get to work because they have to work to be paid. Businesses will realise they need to keep business as usual because if they don't then another company will manage it. Airlines will realise that the ski resorts manage to cope!!! Etc etc.....

Couldnt agree more! When I was a kid the gritter / snow plough used to come down our little lane a few times a day. We also had 6 ft drifts on a regular basis - and my dad used to go to work every day, and I went to school.

Its all just gone to pot because we had a several mild winter years and we got rid of all our infrastructure to deal with it. These things go in cycles so we probably have another 10 years of bad winters to look forward to. I think we need to tool up and stop complaining.
