Did you know that if you get your benefits paid into your bank on a Monday there is a neat little thing you can use to receive your money 2 days early on the Saturday instead. Simply open up any account with Natwest and have the benefits paid into that account. The next time you are paid it will be available on Saturday.

I suppose this will apply to the old age pension and Pension Credit then, yes? I can't see any reference to them on the direct gov site - just tax credits. I must be looking in the wrong place. :)

This does sometimes happen with other banks. My DLA goes in on a Tuesday and have checked on a Monday and it's been paid.

If it is due on the 23d then you should get it on the 23rd. It is not a public holiday, so I doubt you will get it early.

Reasonably poor planning on your part - to leave all your Christmas shopping till the last minute. Would have made more sense to be getting a couple of bits and pieces with every shop - spread the load that way.

Fine, but to add a comment to that: my salary and now my pension is paid into my daughter's bank account. DWP/Pension Service have refused to do the same. Seemingly the account has to be in joint names for both payments to be credited.

I have savings and investment accounts but these do not accept credits through the banking system!

Apart from opening accounts which we do not wish to do for obvious reasons, payments have to be made by way of giros.

    Acceptable?

As for being rare, that is what the government thought until they now find that 1000's of pensioners are refusing to give details of bank accounts even if they have them, preferring to be paid by giro instead.

this is not true, my mums pension & pension credit & any other payments like cold weather and winter fuel go into my account, she did have a post office a/c but its much easier for it to go into my bank a/c as i can just withdraw it from ATM rather than queuing for ages.

DWP does prefer direct payment, and will pay into a bank a/c of another person as long as the person/people to whom the payments belong to are happy with it.

I would just ring them again and ask to change it over. much easier than giros. specially in weather like this when post is already being delayed by 3 days at least.

    hth :D

Do they? Well that is not what I was told. They gave me two options - open a bank account in joint names or a Post Office Card Account (the same anyhow).

Yes thanks for that info, I will contact them in the new year.A bit late now methinks for Christmas!

As regards the giros. Yes they are all over the place at the moment. I didn't get my money for the 2 weeks to 30/11 until the 9/12. I had to go down to the local Jobcentre and wait until I was called and then was given a giro to cash at the main Post Office in the town.
That meant another couple of bus journeys. By the time I got home, I was already £8 down with bus fares!

The payment due on the 14/12 still hasn't arrived so just hoping that it turns up on Monday. If not I will have to report it missing. This time as it will be the second time in a month, I have been told that it could 8 weeks before I get it as they have to do some tracing or something.

If that is the case, I can't see me getting any money whatsoever this side of January (payment due on 28/12 won't get to me at the earliest until New Year.
