I've managed a walk today too. It's much milder here now and all snow and ice completely gone. I must make it more of a habit. Posting on here will help:)
Thanks for info on glucosamine LL, I'll get some when I'm shopping next. Well done on keeping up with the exercise despite your busy day.
What sort of books do you enjoy shegirl? I'm going to make more reading a resolution. For years, almost all my reading (i.e. not work related) was confined to holidays and I got out of the habit.
Pleased to say our eating is getting back to normal. We didn't go mad over the holiday but did enjoy a stir-fry tonight. All cooked leftover cooked meats now portioned up and in the freezer.
I tend to go for thrillers, horrors, crime novels..something gripping.Love anything with a psychological element too.Have always found chic lit/romance novels a bit of a bore though for some reason.I got out of the habit too which is a shame, but I'm going to try and do it more!Sadly,I've slighten broken tonights plans as I'm online and have been for hours due to a stupid argument with a no longer friend lol
Actually, that's another rule for me -banish all idiotic 'friends' who serve to make everything miserable for you!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Another really busy day, Sainsbury's shop, OH hospital appointment - took hours - lots of hanging around, so very little me time today.
Noticed in Sainsbury's exercise mats £6, Gym Balls £6, set of different sized hand weights £15, rowing machine about £30. I need some new handweights but don't really want a whole set (about 6 in set if I remember rightly) so I might check out ASDA first.
Have added some facial exercises to my routine
say these vowel sounds in a really exaggerated manner, really stretching your facial muscles
1. aaah - eeee - oooo, do it about 20 times
2. do your best Bruce Forsyth impression, head back, chin out and pull your lower lip over your top lip - great for firming up the chin & jowels do several times
Facial exercises really tone up the facial muscles to help keep it "lifted" - also gets the blood flowing feeding nutrients to the skin
Right quick session on the bike and then dinner.0 -
hello again!
I'm sure this thread was closed .... maybe I imagined it or something - I am getting old I guess now.
Well done everyone on resisting the christmas treats - I've done nothing but eat this past few daysI am glad to be back home (I went to my parents for Christmas) and return to normality.
Lesson learned - I'm 28. I dont actually "know" what I like doing - I mainly enjoy practical things but most of my pursuits are lonesome ones as thats what I have found most relaxing in the past. I have always found people difficult to get along with and suffered with a lot of depression and anxiety as a result. I know I dont need hundreds of friends etc but a few would be really nice.....
Well done on the weight loss - I'm thinking about joining a jogging group to keep up exercising/maintain my weight.
Carmen - Downhill sking?!?! wow not a chance in my case! Setting goals sounds a good idea - its on what though and achieving them when it seems the universe is against me.
Maman - I graduated university in September after a toil as I suffered badly with depression/anxiety. I am continuing with the part-time job I had through uni as a cleaner in a private house - its a lonesome job and I dont really see anyone regularly. I went to a term of spanish but there was never any suggestion of anyone meeting up at a later date.
I havent done anything health/beauty related today but I will think of some aims/objectives I would like to achieve from doing this thread and then I can direct my energies.

Hi Jen (Top-drawer)
Glad to see you back, was wondering how you were getting on.
I am no expert on depression. I did suffer from post natal depression after my boys were born and if your depression is similar then you have my absolute sympathy. My post natal depression was horrible and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy (hopefully I have no enemies!!!! I try to be nice) Apart from that time, I have the great good fortune to be one of life's eternal optimists.
Have you had any professional help, do you have a good sympathetic GP who can advise and guide you. Other than the most general terms such as try to sleep and eat well, and get plenty of fresh air and exercise I'm not really qualified to advise you. Exercise releases endorphins (the feel good factor) and can be a great help. Also I really do believe that taking care of your appearance can also help lift the spirits.
As regards to making new friends etc. and not being sure of what you like doing - it sounds as if you have reached a bit of a cross-roads. I think this happens to most people at some time in their lives. Not everyone has a straight path through life - for most of us there are all sorts of diversions and zig-zags along the way.
Congratulations of finishing uni and graduating. It is a very great achievement and you deserve a well earned pat on the back. As a matter of interest what did you study, have you managed to find your dream job.
Are you still in touch with your course mates and house mates. Do you keep in touch with old school friends. Making new friends is always lovely but old friends are also worth cherishing - I have friends who I first met over 40 years ago, we don't see each other very often but we are still good friends and support each other when the going gets a bit rough.
Other than your cleaning job which you say is solitary, do you have any other work or studies where you meet people. If not, would you consider doing some charity work. I don't want to sound preachy or patronising but it is a great way of getting out and meeting people and it can take your mind off your own problems for a while.
Keep in touch and keep your chin up - I'm sure other posters will be along shortly with lots of helpful tips.0 -
I quite impressed myself today!!!!!
Have walked approx 2 and a half miles which was nice, but while out DS wanted to stop off at the pasty shop and I couldn't resist one either,so ended up with a pasty for lunch (tonne of calories in them lol) so I ended up having a shake for dinner instead of the lovely chicken casserole and trifle DS was having..smelt sooo yummy but I resisted:D:rotfl:
Feeling better today and have apparently lost 3 and a half pounds!! Feeling more positive just hope I can keep that up and truely get back to being me.hard when I can't get out to do much,or do much at home but little things like trying to lose the extra weight I put on,getting up and hour earlier than my son for some time to myself and making more of an effort with me like I did up until summerish time can make such a big difference:D
Can't stop all the things that have drained me but I can do what I can to feel better
Off to Boots to treat myself with my points tomorrow and relax for a bit as my son will be at the respite centre for a few hours, then hopefully will do tomorrow night as planned for the past couple of nights and just spend the night snuggled up with a good book!
I've also been looking around my favourite clothing websites tonight planning what I'm going to treat myself to after my birthday and when I've lost more weightWill get myself out of the vicious circle of feeling poo so neglecting me then feeling worse for neglecting me,even if it bloody kills me!!!
Hope you're all doing wellIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

I'm 28 and am not quite sure what I like doing anymore too.My life is very solitary due to my sons disability, apart from his dad (my partner) being here at weekends I tend not to see anyone except for nights out occasionally.I only have friday nights when my son isn't here usually (he's at respite then) so trying to think of something to fill them as nights out aren't often enough lolIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Well done on the weight loss - shegirl - you are really making a terrific start.0

Figured, for me,I had to make as many changes as possible as soon as I could to get back to being me and to stick with it as I can easily get way layed at the moment! It's feeling good though so hope I keep it up!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Hi, I love the title of the thread - do you mind if I join you?
I need to lose a few pounds (well okay, a stone) but its about more than that - I am disabled and suffer more in the winter, I'm less mobile, my bf recently hoofed it for someone 20 years younger than me, and I feel old and frumpy (I'm 55 - in the summer I can pass for 45 - at the moment I feel about 65...).
I'm generally happy and optimistic, and I do take care of myself [STRIKE]photoshopping pics before I put them on facebook[/STRIKE]moisturising daily and watching out for wrinkles but I just feel I need a [STRIKE]kick up the backside [/STRIKE] boost to start feeling good about myself again.
Looking forward to hearing your tips

Hi Everyone - Hope you are all well and keeping up the good work, WW, Carmen, Maman, Cave - you're all being suspiciously quiet - hope you are not backsliding!!!
Hi Daisy - welcome to SSS. Hope that now the weather is a bit warmer you can get out and about a bit more - it's very difficult when you have mobility problems. My OH is a wheelchair user - wheelchairs plus snow and ice is not a good combination.
Today's treatment - Bodybrushing, nice bath - starting using loofah mitt again (Thanks for the reminder about bodybrushing Shegirl - had gotten out of the habit-) - Facelift Facemask
