    Day 29

    Disappointing Result

Hi Carmen - like you I'm rather disappointed with my weigh in. Not put any weight on but stayed the same. Measurements about the same too. Given my illness I thought I'd done ok, obviously not. Just going to have to up my game.

No pearls of wisdom today, I guess it's just about keeping going, the old persistence pays off (hopefully).

Managed a lovely long walk today and yesterday. The sun is shining and it was so good to be out in the fresh air. I'm keeping up with reading and healthy eating but having weekend off from decluttering. I've yet to do my tax return (won't take long but I keep putting it off) and I've some other bits of paperwork to do as well but I'm really not in the mood today. Perhaps I'll get on with something mindless like ironing so that I'll feel I've acheived something constructive.

Hope everyone's having a good day.

Surprised myself and did all my paperwork (but no ironing:o). Tax return not done yet but I did get on to HMRC website to check that I had the log on details right. My worry was that I'd have to send off for forgotten password which takes ages and would take me close to deadline.

Hope you've all had a good weekend.

    Hi everyone

Spent 5 hours at the hospital today with OH who had to have some pretty nasty tests. Feeling rather tired and drained this evening.

Have only managed a few yoga stretches so far. Have a bit of a tummy upset - hospital sandwich:( Will definitely cut out wheat for a while.

Another dentist appointment tomorrow, then hopefully onwards and upwards after that.

Managed to do a bit of decluttering in my bedroom. Hoping to do a wardrobe audit soon.

No special beauty treatments today - just my usual evening routine - vaseline to nails and cuticles, slather on lots of body lotion to legs and arms, skin definitely less dry with all this attention. Still a few patches of excema to my knees but steadily improving.

Have been reading my cookery and beauty books from library, getting lots of ideas. Going to try cooking something new each week to widen my repertoire.

Maman - did you catch the new Lark Rise last night - loved it. Am also enjoying "Zen" afterwards, which is set in Rome, looks a fabulous place - I feel a visit might be required one of these days.;) I love Italian food, the art and architecture and just the general feel and style of it all. Gawd, but I'm ready for some warm sun.

Healthy eating and reading done today. Also started back at my dance class, first one since holidays so that was today's exercise. Cleared one tiny drawer:o and checked that I have all the necessary papers for tax return and I do:T

Tomorrow I'm going to Toby Carvery and am already wondering whether I have the willpower to avoid roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding:(

Rome is lovely LL and worth a visit for all the famous sites but for a different taste of Italy I like Verona. The town itself is good (all Romeo and Juliet references) and from there you can do Lake Garda, a day trip to Venice by train and I just loved Vicenza with all the Palladian architecture. I do love to travel and enjoy short city breaks as much as longer holidays.

I didn't watch Lark Rise but I have recorded it. Reviews of last series (which I avoided because I was planning to read the book!!) said it was very 'prettified' when compared with the hard lives of agricultural labourers described in the book. However I'm going to watch it anyway and make my own mind up!

Hope you feel better soon, glad to hear you're keeping up your every day beauty routines.

:T that's brilliant, well done. I think you should definitely go to the tango class. It'll be fun but also more exercise! Good to hear from you.

Shegirl - what a result, 8.5lbs :T Definitely join the tango class, bet it will be great fun.

Maman - Enjoy the carvery, when I have to chose I have the roasties and forget the mash. I know that's the wrong way round, but at least I don't have both:rotfl: Fortunately, by the time I've eaten a roast dinner I don't usually have room for a pud so that's my excuse. Anyway, I'm not really that bothered about sweet things - as long as I get my bit of choccy with my coffee, then I'm happy.

Dentist gave me some anti-biotics for my tooth infection, so hopefully that will sort out my chest, throat, headache & fluey stuff at the same time.

Honestly, I feel like a right moaning minnie at the moment, but I've been "off it" for a couple of weeks now - nothing drastic just a bit grotty. Normally I just get a quick cold and then get over it - this time it's just dragged on and on. I obviously really need to do this healthy eating/exercising thing. I think being my OH's carer has taken a real toll on my health and well-being and I really need to fight back.

Having said that, apart from the fluey thing, I do feel much better and certainly emotionally stronger. Yesterday was truly horrible (my poor OH had a rough time of it at the hospital) and yes I did get a bit weepy seeing him suffer so much, but I do feel that I'm dealing with things better now.

I think the whole taking better care of myself, grooming and exercising are having a very positive effect - even if I haven't lost much weight yet.

Today I have blitzed the bedrooms, hall and downstairs cloakroom - that's surely burnt off some calories :o and I'm just about to start some exercise.

    Keep up the good work.

I LOVE ITALY...and Rome being the very first place I visited it has a special place in my heart, I find Italian and Egyptian history fascinating. Opps rambling again :o

Well done shegirl what a result, keep up the good work.

Enjoy the carvery Maman, just have what you fancy, just in moderation.

LL, I hope you and your OH feel better after your hospital ordeal?
Feeling unwell can sometimes makes matters seems a lot worse, I hope you will feel better soon (hugs)

I slept well last night so felt really good today :DI have had a couple of good days, I have not managed any exercise but eating sensibly again.
Tomorrow I am going to have a mooch around the shops, long time since I have done that! I should really do some ironing :o and declutter my wardrobe, clothes in there that I have not worn for so long. Loathe to part with them as I just keep hoping I will get into them one day soon, maybe I will just recycle my fashion faux pas' :rotfl:

Have any of you read Jenny Worths' book's? I have read Call the Midwife and Shadows of the Workhouse and really enjoyed them. Call me naive, but I was quite shocked how 'things' were for a lot of people in the early 50's.

Right, enough waffling now I am going to give my body a good slathering of lotion, especially my feet.

    What's your style

Had a morning off so went mooching around the shops. It has set me thinking about style, fashion etc, which celebrity style I most admire. I like Ralph Lauren's classic tailoring and love to see well turned out women like Helen Mirren, Joan Collins etc

I always enjoy watching the Oscars for the frocks. There are some very elegant celebs. (Some disasters too). I could do with a few tips.

French women have a reputation for being chic and stylish, New York women for being ultra groomed but for me I think Italian women do glamour better than anyone. They look sexy without being cheap.

I know this probably makes me sound like an old dinosaur but I find our High Street shops very depressing. It doesn't matter which town or city I visit the shops are all the same - likewise the clothes, racks and racks of the same old dreary, cheap and tatty looking merchandise, horrible fabrics, dreadful garish colours. Only of course they aren't cheap at all. Expensive tat mostly. Yes there are the lovely high end boutiques but I simply cannot afford their prices.

I've tried to treat myself to a few new clothes several times in the past month or so but come back empty handed every time. Only one thing for it - I'm going to have to start sewing again. I do have quite a fabric stash just waiting for me to weave some magic.;)

Exercise - now up to 5kms on bike, still yoga and ball - going to dig out my DVD's and try some new routines next week.
Beauty Treatment - pedicure - need to make a chiropodist appt soon.

Went to Superdrug today to stock up on a few basics. Bought some little bottles and containers to whip up some of my own concoctions.:rotfl:

Carmen - Not read Jenny Worth's books - will look out for those. I know what you mean though about how life has changed since the fifties. I love history and I'm always fascinated by the day to day lives our not so distant ancestors lived.

My father came from a very large and very poor family - his generation had it rough, the thirties and then the war. Even my own childhood was hardly affluent, my kids were amazed when I recently told them how we had frost on the bedroom windows - on the inside!!!
