Previously the Frump to Fab in Six Months Thread

I thought I would try and reopen the thread but make it slightly different. Did the d word confuse the board guides?

As Maman pointed out Frump to Fab is about more than slimming and I agree. For me it's about a new mindset - a fresh look at fashion, beauty, wellbeing, lifestyle, having adventures, girly stuff, fun stuff.

I for one don't want to be dowdy, fuddy-duddy, frumpy, haggard looking and old before my time. However, I've lost my way a bit, I need to make changes and I need to watch the pennies at the same time.

The diary was an idea to help me focus. To invite anyone to join me on my quest, to post their comments, views, suggestions, whatever.

So please nice moderators can we keep this thread and not merge with the diet support threads - that's not what the contributors to this thread are about.

Summer Solstice Sensation is a bit of a silly title I admit (although it does have a rather nice alliterative quality) it's roughly six months away - same timescale as before - and I want to look sensational (ish) by then.

Anyway Day 5 didn't go too well, OH not too well and my time was fully taken up with caring duties, hospital trip and a food shop before the snow hits.

Still really sore from the physio yesterday so no exercise.

Will do better tomorrow. Promise.

Carmen, my twin sister, how are you doing?

I was enjoying reading your other thread LL. I hope you can keep this one. These threads can be helpful and inspirational to lots of people.

Heavy hint..........as you said, you need to watch the pennies, so I think if you emphasise the money-saving aspects of your frump to fab ( :Tlove it!) journey, the Board Guides should look more kindly on it.

    Good luck!

Really fancied the idea of belly dancing - supposed to be very good for backache too. However, at £8 that's a bit steep for me. I already pay £35 a session for physio every four weeks, perhaps when my aches and pains improve I can switch from physio to belly dancing - much more fun.

In the meantime, looked at the local council run leisure centre and notice that they do a couple of classes, one a stretching and yoga class for over 50's and another one that looked interesting was a dance class (not sure what type of dance) that is open to all comers. They are much cheaper so come the New Year I think I might give them a try.

Not done any exercise yet, in the middle of blitzing my tip of a house - does extreme housework count as exercise. Waiting for the GP to visit my OH, couldn't possibly let him/her see the pigsty it has become this week. All that snow, slush and mud makes everywhere filthy.

Today's Beauty treatment - Not sure yet, but it involves getting dolled up to go out with the ladies from the Scope charity shop where I volunteer. It's our Christmas meal. Unfortunately I'm driving, so no alcohol will be taken. Will just have to have a nightcap when I get home.

OK feeling guilty now, so off to do some time on the exercise bike.

You could always try combining your glam-up makeover with your charity shop work. This could range from having dress-up days in the shop to holding full-on fashion shows.

Even without that, maybe you could approach the whole thing as a creative exercise - make over the shop too, be in charge of changing the window displays or rails so that they're attractive.

If nothing else, the more attractive you make the shop, the more donations it will attract (and the more fantastic clothes you can nab first :D)

Hope you're having a good day

Glad to see that most of us have found your new thread LL. I think it's an excellent idea. I would lurk outside those classes before joining if I were you. They sound good but be careful that they're not full of 'old dears' or maybe that would be a good thing as you might be the baby of the class:D.

I don't know how much weight you have to lose but sometimes doctors can 'prescribe' SW or dance classes or gym membership to save you some money. It's certainly worth asking.

Hi LL, I had read the other thread with interest and had intended to post, but as ever, I got distracted.

I have recently decided to try and smarten myself up, it's happened gradually, with me growing my hair. I've started wearing make-up every day, started with a hint of it, now I go for 'full face' and I've tried to drag myself out of my scruffy trackie pants and sweatshirts.

The amount of positive comments that I've had has been amazing and has really boosted my confidence.

But, I've had a few comments about, my marriage and I'm astounded at how many people think I'm either on the pull, or have split up from my husband
I've told my husband about this and he laughs, but I would be quaking if he were the jealous type.

I hope this thread stays open as I think it is moneysaving, it goes to prove that you don't have to spend hundreds of pounds to have a whole new image.

  • Well I went out with the Scope ladies, had a great time, went for it and even had a knickerbocker glory for pud.

What to wear when you want to look glam, its freezing outside and all that fits you are your faithful jeans and tracky pants?

Rifled through the wardrobe and found a lovely multi-coloured hippy/gypsy skirt lurking at the back. (Charity shop reject - they wanted to chuck it out because they thought it was old fashioned - I thought differently so I got it for nothing).

The Manager of our shop has very particular rules about what can go out and anything remotely hippy/retro/or ethnic never gets put out for sale. Suits me, I always make a donation though otherwise I would be depriving them of rag money.

Anyway, the skirt has an elasticated waist so one size fits all. Only problem - it's made of cotton so not overly warm, borrowed my son's long johns to wear underneath. Oh the glamour of it all, still no one knew about the long johns so the illusion was complete.

Teamed it with a black velvet Russian style jacket (Recent purchase from ASDA £30) - again a bit thin and flimsy for this weather so popped a long sleeved black t-shirt underneath.Topped it with my old friend a tan coloured suede coat which I've had for years - too tight to fasten so wore it loose with a fake fur stole round my neck. Fur lined pixie boots to keep my tootsies cosy.

Warm as toast and quite glam.

Cave - some great ideas, I love dressing the manneqins and freshening the displays. Don't really have proper window displays unfortunately, no room because of the floor levels etc. A fashion show would be fantastic - Spring maybe.

Hi Whatatwit. Sounds like you are doing really well. Glad your husband is on board, I bet he's proud of you. It's much better if your family "gets it". My OH is very supportive too and is looking forward to seeing his new fab wife.

I didn't see your old thread but I am liking the idea of this one. I need to lose weight / do more exercise etc. What I really like about this is the makeover element too as that can still be focused on if the food thing goes belly up on occasion. I limit myself with putting off the makeover bits until I do lose weight. But perhaps there is a lot more learning I can do anyway.

I think I shall be a very happy lurker here. (I know I will spend a lot less if I can address the emotional side of my eating which is what next year is all about).
