Can I use a GiffGaff sim in a Virgin handset?

I got the handset from a Virgin shop over 18 months ago. When my contract ended I went onto a 30 day SIM only rolling contract. I am now haviing problems with Virgin and considering going elsewhere. I have a GiffGaff SIM and wondered if it would work in my handset. I could then Port my number from Virgin. Or would the handset be locked to Virgin?

The handset will most likely need to be unlocked. I'm not sure Virgin will charge you for this or not, but you will be able to get your PAC free of charge to port your number to Giff Gaff.

Do I have to ask Virgin to unlock the handset? Is there no other way of doing it?

I may well decide to either buy a new PAYG handset or take out a new contract soon anyway, but thought I could give Giff Gaff a go while I make up my mind.

As you handset is a Virgin Handset it will probably be locked to Virgin/T Mobile and as Giff Gaff is basically 02 you will probably have to unlock it. With a G600 it will be cheaper and quicker to get it unlocked in a "shop" probably cost about £10 to do
