Instead, why not look at it in the whole and agree that the growth of termination fees are anti competitive. Following any price increase, you should have a right to free movement of your supply.

We have an unbalanced Contracts, where they can do all manner of changes which affect customers in different ways.It shouldn't be allowed by the Regulatory Authorities, that you are then tied into the terms and conditions, which have materially changed to your disadvantage.

I'm having this in front of me with my law book... this was basically going to be my argument too, only I am not as articulate as you.

You said it perfectly. Thank you.
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

  • Yes, exit fees surely put the last nail in the coffin of the 'the UK fuel industry is one of the most competitive in the World' argument. Nonsense of the most nonsensical kind (probably originating from Nonsensica).

I know Consumer Focus are to be disbanded. However, they have showed more fight than anyone in the energy market.

I understand they are behind a number of moves to improve things for customers, maybe as a parting shot.

I have written to them a couple of days ago on this very topic, urging them to look at these restrictive practices. If anyone else feels strongly ,please add your weight of feeling. :)

So when it's something that affects you,it is fair game for a complaint. When it's someone else's complaint, we should give it one of your dismissive 'your an idiot' post.

I think you are confusing me with somebody else.

It should be no surprise, I tend to agree with/thank common sense posts. Funnily enough, I can't remember ever thanking one of your posts, though, but maybe I have.;)

When I received my letter stating the new '5%' price hikes I promptly spent a few hours that evening and am in the process of switching supplier. Npower were okay the past year or so but as long as consumers are on the ball the power to switch is the only real way of cheesing them off!
Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

Ditto as OP. Under Ofgem rules you can write or email them just before 20 working days of the email they sent and say you are ending the contract. They have email contact. I'm going to take a screen shot to show they've received it. You then have another 15 working days before you need to check prices on a comparison site and move. Quidco offer some good cashbacks. You then get up to 6 weeks before you're with a new provider. Your rates with Npower have to stay at the old ones all of that time ie probably well into Mar 11 and hopefully the end of the large usage period. There are other providers who have raised their prices recently who will have very similar ones to the new Npower so nothing lost.
  • Reading between the lines SOL2020 looked pretty cack a couple of weeks ago, so if I had to guess I'd say they were losing money on the previous versions os SOL 17-19 in particular. This is just a hunch.

The T & C's are a bit of a nightmare to be honest. Because of the termination fee and the end date many people assumed they had a fixed rate. Clearly if they had a fixed rate NPower would just have to stand the loss.

I am on SOL17 and looked at SOL20 for a slight saving. I understand from a conversation today that cancellation fees won't be charged if the customer decides to change (tariff or supplier). This is the only reasonable position they could take under the circumstances IMO.

I am on SOL 18 and rang them due to the large increase under the new rates for gas and electricity - around 14.1% in my case.

n Power were adamant that the cancellation fee would not be waived under any circumstances! I have sent a complaint e -mail to them, but as yet still awaiting a reply.
