in Water bills
I hope someone can help!
I have just moved house and phoned United Utilities to change over etc, my monthly direct debit is now £61 per month which seems really excessive as there is only me and 7 week old baby!
My sister is on a water meter and last month paid £33 for the month and ther is 4 in her house who get a bath every day!
This just seems a lot to me as im on benefits and every penny counts at the minute! x

Ring your water company up and ask if they can fit a meter. Sorry, you firstly need to ask (if you rent) your landlord.
If you live in a flat you can't have a meter but you can apply to have an assessed charge.
Your water at the moment must be based on the rateable value of your property.
Good luckmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks im gona ask my landlord as the meter seems the best option! The rateable value is £211 which is high!
think its a farce that they can get away with it! x0 -
To be honest,it isnt a farce, its what water costs.
Like I say, it was calculated on rateable value so bigger houses, who housed more people paid in accorance to house size.
Now we have a choice.
If you explain to the landlord that it will be a lot cheaper for you.
And at the end of a 12 month period he/you can have it changed back again.
The water company should be able even at this stage give you some idea what your metered water would cost.
Good luck, and talk to your landlord nicely, he'll be more likey to agree.:Dmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

The majority of flats CAN have a meter. Your water company will survey for a water meter and if they decide that a meter cannot be fitted then they will offer an assessed measured charge.
You cannot APPLY for an assessed measured charge.0
