have you looked on blue nile?

I've looked there yes, but they don't have any styles that are 'high' enough for me - I like the look of a high setting and this one seemed perfect! :D

My fiance bought my ring from samara james - it's the emma style, 0.5 carat platinum with a hearts and arrows cut. He rang them up and they gave him a choice of diamonds and advised on which would be best for his budget. Think they have a showroom too now. Only word of advice is make sure you get your finger properly measured ... I've had to have my ring downsized twice. I love my ring though and we're definitely going to get our wedding rings from samara james as well. :)

Thanks - good to hear a good experience. That one is gorgeous!

Hi guys, my boyfriend and I have been looking at engagement rings (although not put much effort into it so far) and I have two considerations: 1, that the diamond (or whatever stone) is ethically sourced, and 2, that it should cost between £200-£800 but ideally no more than that (I am more concerned about the cost than my boyfriend!)

Most rings I've seen online or in the shops seem to start at minimum £500, but are often closer to £1,000 or even more. I don't want my boyfriend to have to spend a fortune, but I know he wants the ring to be of a decent quality, so I don't know what figure is realistic.

Any help on both fronts would be most appreciated!

P.S. I prefer white gold rings to gold (and it would be cheaper than platinum).

Thanks monkey I particularly like the look of Brillian, they seem to be in the right price range. The only annoying thing was that I tried to request the free ring sizer and it said it couldn't do it for some reason, so I Googled it and there are plenty of wedding/jewellery websites where you can request one, so I did that.

There is a ring on Brillian that looks nice and is reasonably priced. I've advised my boyfriend that VAT goes up next year so maybe worth buying this year ;)

Have also found it on Marlows Jewellers website, which is slightly cheaper, but being a money saving website, the cheaper the better yes? :D

Wow, I hadn't seen the Marlow's website before, they have some gorgeous settings! Especially love their 4 claw ones.

Are you anywhere near to Birmingham? They're located in the Jewellery Quarter so you could probably haggle a few % off the price if you went into the store to buy. Have fun looking ;) lucky you! xx

I'm no where near Birmingham unfortunately - the cost of getting there/accommodation would outweigh any saving I think?

Possibly, how far is nowhere near? It would depend on how much train fare would be for you to get there, against how much % you could save. If you have a read of the main Engagement Rings thread on this board a few people have said you could expect a saving of at least 10% by haggling and offering cash payments, but I wouldn't know myself. Something to think about though anyway :)

I don't know how you even chose actually lol, there's loads that are gorgeous. I couldn't pick between 16, 17, 23 and 27 haha. They're all lovely. I like how they offer half sizes too.
