Miles Per litre question

Hi

Hope this is posted in the right place???

I drive an old peoguet 306 estate diesel (Y reg) and am concerned about the amount of miles I seem to be getting to the amount of diesel I am putting in. I may be a little niave on this so I do apologyse for his but cars are a little out of my knowledge apart than to drive :rotfl:

I put in about £20.00 of diesel and am getting 130 miles, any ideas what i should be getting and what may be the reason I'm not?? Just had the glow plugs changed and it now starts first time which is lovely this winter:T:T

Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.

Works out to approx. 38MPG, not out of the ballpark for a big estate car.

Depends on what sort of journeys that you do.

Short urban journeys from cold = poor mpg
Long 50/60mph journeys with no rapid acceleration or braking = good mpg

I used to do the second type of commute and got 45-50 mpg out of my (petrol) car. Now I do the second type of journey to and from the station, and this time of year I am lucky to get 30 mpg.

    .

I typically get mid 40's MPG from my Diesel Fiesta. But when I'm in the 50mph roadworks on the A1 for 12 miles my MPG goes through the roof! Usually around 75!

i can do about 110 miles in my 1.8 audi petrol on £10
its done over 200k miles aswell its great

thats on motorways at about 60 as the old girl cant do much more than that lol

how ever my other car the audi a4 with same engine but much new can only scrape about 75 miles

the only thing i can notice that different is single point injection and multimpoint inject and the biggest difference is the gear ratios. The a4 revs its nuts off at 60 @ 3800rpm where as the old audi hardly revs at all at 60 @2700rpm nearly 1000rpm difference

58 miles per gallon from a worn-out 1.8 petrol engine is hard to believe, even at a constant 60 mph. So is 3800rpm for an Audi A4 1.8 petrol at 60mph - have tried changing up to top gear??

unfortunatly its the A4 they made before realising that they need 6 gears the year newer model recieved the 6speed box after complaints. Im tempted to change the final drive in it or even put the audi 80's engine and box in it
the audi 80 is much better than the A4.
the old audi has had new pistons and rings in about 60k miles ago so i suppose its a bit cheating really it uses no water or oil and its been in the family since it was 1 year old its never let anyone down it look a bloody mess tho

if your sat on the motorway in the a4 its sounds like your ringing its neck im forever going for 6th like i do in my civic type r but the audi doesnt have it :(

the auto 1.8 a4 from the same time is pretty similar and they changed the box on that obviously zeeeee germans didnt look into it much
  • The Audi 80 was a superb car, a mate of mine had one for years, so quiet and refined inside. Not at all as offensively-styled as the modern Audis.
  • ummm it may have been refined but a leaking sunroof has left a bit of a tatty headlining

i think i might just remove all the interior shedding lots of weight and for a much higher MPG
  • You should spend a bit of money on it. They'll be classic cars in another decade or so. They're still good-looking vehicles.
  • I get about 320 miles from my 50 litre tank on my 51 plate 206 petrol. Mix of A roads and town.
