ATM the spread on CAD is nearly 10%, which is very off-putting - I don't like lining the pockets of market makers.
I don't know why it is like this but often you need to put a dummy buy/sell through to see what the real spread is. Usually its nowhere near the quote bid/offer numbers displayed on iii etc.

  • Ive made money on a 10% spread share before now. People didnt want to sell it and yet it wasnt in great demand either I guess, so low volume can mean high spread.

Ive seen penny shares go from 10% to under 1% when volume picks up but so does the price often. Not sure I'd worry about the spread if I liked the buy price and I was going to hold on annual basis not trade.
If its a good share and it does gain interest then it might be the spread on your buy sell over many months is actually not 10%

(In the above case directors had bought up some but they werent that rich so it was others too with a deathgrip.
Ive read three quarters of EMED is held by half a dozen people, it can be traded but the spread on that is bad often but lately its on the move I think)

is anyone in BLVN i like the look of them alot wouldnt mind a headsup

thansk for the tip on CAD Bobby i like the look of them but also dislike there current position they dont seemt o able to break out of 20p and I dislike the environment they operate in and the fact that the UK government had to get involved to settle legal matters although this is ukraine so....

in saying that they are sitting on alot of reserves and are generating cashflow so I hope they can make things come good

I will probably wait till further news before I look to invest I dislike investing in anything less than £1 to be honest, i want something holding my share price

meanwhile my tip will go to the very over valued parkmead group PMG currently at 20-25p with net assets of around 10p they are a oil n gas consulting firm but looking to add an additional exploration arm and are looking at the north sea

AND ironically one of there NED's is a Phillip Dayer (CAD and PMG)

I think 2011 will be harder for investors but there will still be some good companies out there i would expect comoddities to contineu to perform but i would expect a rougher economic ride as euro debt pops up again and chinese interest rate movements are watched carefully, also it will be intersting to see what happens after QE2 and a rising of UK interest rates..

    current stocks on my watchlist
PMG,CAD,PPC, BLVN supergroup for a shoter term play I expect there Q4 report to be bullish but still expect them to have problems maintaing margins but still a good company overall

    invested in
    CEY, XEL

Ok, thought I'd post a link to an article:

Adrian Day: Long on Gas, Longer on Oil

......which pretty much sums up my investment thoughts at a strategic level. I've no particular view on Adrian Day, whether he is good, bad or indifferent.

  • I like MML (Medusa Mining). A Aussie owned producing miner in the Philippines, they're ISAable, have recently moved to the main market from AIM, have declared their first dividend and intend to ramp up production by 100%.

They have no debt and are loaded with cash.

They're also one of the cheapest miners of gold in the world, producing at around $190 per ounce.

I like POL too. Loads of cash and massive upside to their investments. Currently trading at a 25% discount to net liquid assets. Only 5p per share and ISAble.

Not so sure it's quite as few as a half dozen people (esp after the recent listing) but 70% is under a dozen institutions/the board.
You can trade EMED inside the spread more often than not. I'd say it is all but exceptions in fact.

Seems like I've been waiting for this to transform for months/years (oh yeah I have) but I think EMED will get Administrative Standing by end of Jan.
  • I am currently invested in RRl and XEL as a few others here are.

Others i am interested in and following

ATC - coal production, think they are undervalued as have recently improved production but not released any updated results yet. Expecting good things early next year.
NRRP - commodity exploration namely gold, copper and uranium.
KEFI - gold and copper exploration

Guess i will need to wait for my bonus/see what happens to these in next few months before i invest anything though.

Be interested in others opinions of these?

  • Not sure what Administrative Standing is, how does that alter things especially. I know they been completing permissions and that, it does seem they will be able to mine in 2011 and produce properly 2012 ?

Administrative Standing will recognise them as a mining company with the right to exploit Rio Tinto. It will enable them to apply for expropriation of the pieces of land they don't own (if those landowners continue to play silly beggars).
It will enable them to start to apply for the 40 or so other permits they need to apply for (blasting permits, dust control docs, health and safety, everything to do with actually running the mine etc etc).
The only "permissions" currently completed are a long awaited fourth signature from the previous owners liquidation committee (this was not a legal requirement but the local Govt had asked for it and EMED seemed to be becalmed until it could get it) and they have submitted all the docs to apply for Administrative Standing.

The company has seemed remarkably bullish on starting up production by the end of 2011 for months now. Yes this will be trial production building to "full" production during 2012. (There are longer term plans to up production from the "full" 9mtpa to 15mtpa using other equipment on site but that is for a few years later depending on resource upgrades etc)

Price moving as a typed all that.... nice.
