    I heard tell that generous redundancy is being offered this financial year as budgets are underspent with the double benefit of bringing forward redundancy costs to a comparatively better funded year and reducing staff costs going forward in the lean years.

    (Of course provinding services with fewer staff and of course the wrong staff - those employable elsewhere will take redundancy whereas time-servers will stay - may be more difficult)

    To an extent that is true. I have also heared gosip that there is a lot of revolving door redundancy going on... for example. NHS trusts are getting rid of managers, by devolving power to local GPs, who will then have to hire... er... the same managers. Nice little payout, and you are still doing the same job.
