I think the poster meant better in the sense of "third generation or later".

In terms of better or not, I got an 8gb 2nd generation, and it's served me fine for apps etc, even for space. Granted I might need to take stuff off, but cost-wise, it's still perfectly fine. I realise it's probably actually the equivalent of the 1st from what I remember from my research but I have been able to update each Operating System upgrade for free every time through iTunes.
It's much cheaper, and if you don't need 'facetime' it is great!
