my channel box finally appears to have died.
its a pace, with a sky card and i think i get all the freesat channels.
so i am now looking to get a new box, i dont pay any subs and dont intend to, i dont want freeview as i will be losing channels i already watch, so believe i need to get a freestat box.
i would like to upgrade to some type of pvr, but i dont have the £100+ to get a freesat. my question is what can i get? i have a dish and i still have the sky card (only basic viewing no sky), i have looked on ebay but dont want to buy something that will not work with what i have, please can anyone advise?

Basically, you either get a Sky + Receiver and pay Sky at least £10 a month to use it's recording facilities, or you cough up and buy a Freesat PVR.0

If you already have a dish just get the box - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321557/Trail/searchtext%3EFREESAT.htm0

thanks for the argos link, thats more managable.
inactive, i dont think think telling me to "cough up" on a moneysaving site is very productive, if i could spend it, i would0 -

Well I am sorry, but I was only giving you a realistic answer, sorry if that isn't what you were looking for.
The receiver that the link points to at Argos is not a PVR, so not what you asked for. ( and it is rubbish ).
If you cannot afford something, then best just forget it.0 -
Charleysez - the Argos link is not the device you want. It's not a recorder, and it's not HD. You can get a Humax Foxsat HDR (Freesat recorder, HD, iPlayer,) for £180 I think refurbished from Humax directly, I think you'd be better to save for that.0

OP, please bear in mind that what you get (or rather don't now get) at present is Freesat from Sky. This is a different platform to Freesat, which is what you will get if you buy a PVR.
The channel line up is similar, but not identical. No free lunch, and no free laptop

What channels do you want to watch I have Freesat and would say that the Freesat channel line up is the weakest out of Freesat from Sky, Freeview and Freesat?0

However, blue (a.k.a. 'yellow house') cards still work to 'regionalise' 101 and 103.Phantom_Flan_Flinger wrote: »The blue cards were phased out this year and no longer work. We're on white now.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
