Car Insurance, I've tried everything and still I dont feel its slow enough

Hi,

My name is ben and at the end of the month my care insurance is due.

My Renewel quote from Admiral is £603.

So like most I took to shoping around, I did searchers for my exact current policy, legal cover, same named drivers, break down cover, etc, like for like.

All I got was quotes that are far higher. So I tweaked, Mother as a named driver, and no farther, full time student. New Admiral quote online £537 pounds :D wicked.

But! I feel I can go cheaper.

Tried, go compare, compare the market, money supermarket, Tesco compare, swift, uswitch. An a few unknows. tried most sites not on price comparison sites.

Any ideas how I can take my quest for cheaper further?

Here are the stats.
Age: 23
NCB: 3
Years Licence Held: 4
Insurance type: Fully Comp

Mother named driver, 20 years licence held, no claims, or convictions. No claims or convictions me also.

Car: Vauxhall Vectra SRI 140 2.0 4dr Saloon 2000X

So who wants to help me get this lower? The Car Insurance Xmas Challenge lol.

Ill post out chocolate coins :P.

Any ideas, very greatful.

    Change your car.
  • Yeah not a bad idea, but I love it so.
  • Have you tried the pay as you drive insurers? Coverbox, Insure the Box, i -kube. Worth looking at if your mileage is lower than average (say under 8,000 per annum). Also some you'd need to call - A Plan, Selecter, Flux
  • Personally i would say that you should be happy with a quote of £537 !

Given that you are relatively young - 23
You are only driving 3 years
You are driving a 2 litre car !
    You are insured fully comp.

There are posters on here who would kill to have such a low quotation as they are paying double that amount !

Be thankful for the £537 quote , accept it and be grateful your not paying a lot more !
The loopy one has gone :j

Biggest pitfalls are car, age and occupation. Sounds about right on that basis. Also where do you live?

  • Hi Morph4610, thanks a lot ill explore those options. I think the pay as you go option may not be a good one, I've worked out roughly my annual mileage and its on the 10,000 spot.

No-oneknowsme, I've been driving for 4 years, yes I am quite young at 23, but before I took this car on I was getting quotes for around £500 for it, of course at the time when I got the car. I didn't buy 12 months then, I just transferred my current policy at the time over to the new car. And at the moment, over the past year or so I have noticed, its just cheaper to go fully comp anyway.

Oh and why should I be thankful it's "only" £537, when I can drive better than my Dad who gets his for half that, or my Mum, who I can drive better than, who gets it for a quarter of that, I'm not ready to just give up yet and pay for the quote I've been given, I like the challenge of getting it down, I see it as a game.

Hi vikingaero, I live in Derbyshire, Ilkeston. Quite a small town in comparison to Derby City, or Nottingham which is just next door.

It's not about driving better, its your risk profile. I think I drive better than half the people out there on the road, but I wont get insurance for £50.....

Goodluck with getting it lower, you have done everything you can so far, I really cant see it getting significantly lower unless you change car.

£500 odd quid for a 2 litre car at your age? I'd call that a good quote ...

Yeah I know it's all about risk profile etc etc etc, I just get annoyed when I'm punished because of those at my age who can't drive. An when women the same age as me are getting theirs 25-50% cheaper just because they are a women, it's quite sexist, to say that because I'm a man I'm more risk.

Seriously, its £500 lol, not a fiver, or £50, Five Hundred Pounds, half of £1000, it really isn't cheap at all lol.
