Can you extend the Apple Warranty long as you do it before your current expires?

Just phone AppleCare and ask to take out a further warranty. Although depending on which iPhone you have (3G, 3GS, 4) it may be cheaper if it does break to just buy a refurbished one through an Apple Store.

AppleCare will extend your warranty for an additional 12 months (giving you a 2 year warranty) as long as you register it within the first year, I believe it's £60 through Apple although you can usually purchase it for less from your network provider. It'll also give you free technical support from Apple and covers accessories (charger & headphones) & battery.

Don't bother with the network provider, all they do it tell you to go to Apple or wait three weeks minimum for them to send it off to Apple anyway.

Depends what network provider you're with I guess, but I know you can get it from O2 customer services for £55 and you can pick it up in store for the same price too (don't think you'll even have to be an O2 customer to pick it up in store, it's usually next to the cases etc.). It basically works the same way modern software licenses work, it's just a box containing a bit of card with a serial number which you use to register with AppleCare online.
