What is the best coal?- maxibrite not burning

hi all - thanks for reading
we have solid fuel burner that generally works well. i stocked up on maxibrite ovoids from the coal man - but they dont burn - they smoulder and dont kick out heat. even with all the vents open to get a good draw they glow at best. if the doors are open they will go out. they aren't wet and i'm sure the chimney is ok.

any thoughts on a better coal type?

cheers

I'm assuming you have used used this brand name coal previously and successfully? Perhaps contact supplier, I dare say even with these smart coals (if I can use this term) a bad batch is possible, have you contacted supplier explaining your post above?

You've clearly got a problem. Maxibrite burns as wel as anything else (in fact better than many) - and I can say that having used it on a variety of stoves. Either you have had a bad batch delivered (as Welda says, contact your supplier) or you have developed a draughting problem - in which case contact a sweep/installer.

Good luck and please let us know the outcome.

    Hi Specktor

Saw this and just thought i would point out these types of fuel and meant to smoulder ... 'burning' slower and releasing more heat ...

Maybe it is simply the type of fuel for your stove?

We have a multi-fuel stove and have tried several to get the best heat per amount of fuel ... The best we have found are Homefire ... They are sort of hexagonal shaped bricks .. not to be confused with the Homefire Ovals which are slightly different ... We found these burned fantastically and gave off loads of heat (we normally operate ours with the doors closed) ... They were in fact even giving off heat the following morning ... without even banking up the stove! ... :T

I would suggest trying a bag or two over Christmas before engaging a small Victorian child to poke up your chimney ... Sainsbugs sell them on most Petrol Station forecourts ... (They come in a Yellow Bag) ... as do B&Q I believe ... It may well totally solve your problem ... :D

Hope this is some help & Messy Christmas
