Priceminister.co.uk - foreign transaction charge?

I used priceminister.co.uk to buy a dvd, in £, and got charged £1.25 by natwest as the transaction came from Paris, France.

At no point in the order did it clearly indicate this would be the case (I have a santander zero credit card specifically for occasions like this and would have used that!).

Has anyone else used them? I asked natwest, they said nothing they can do, waiting to hear back from Priceminister. It's only £1.25 but that's not the point! The charge made it more expensive than amazon and they took longer!

That is because they are based in france.

    Domain name:
    priceminister.co.uk

    Registrant:
    Babelstore S.A

    Registrant type:
    Non-UK Corporation

    Registrant's address:
    57 Boulevard de la Villette
// For any complain, please mail to : abuse at priceminister.co.uk //
    Paris
    75010
    France

You could ask natwest that you were misled due to the domain being .co.uk and they might refund it ;).

How is anyone to know its a foreign company when using a .co.uk domain, You dont expect them to be based in france, Therefore this is misleading to a users view but only finds out when the company actually takes funds and the bank chargs the account a fee.

Tried that, they said take it up with the vendors. :( Would be really nice if when you buy something it says: this transaction will take place outside of the uk. Thanks though, note to self, don't use priceminister again and find the "about us" bit on websites before buying things.

use flagfox. Some british companies are hosted abroad but a good indicator still
  • I am with Natwest and had the same problem on a purchase made a few days ago. I e-mailed their Customer Service and they credited my account with a voucher to compensate.

Presumably when you attempt to use the voucher you'll need to make a payment to top-up the amount, which will simply result in you incurring another transaction fee.

This just happened to me today. Bought a dvd off them the other day and just checked my account and have a 1.25 charge. I'm quite disgusted, there was no indication they would charge a fee.

I thought that at first too, but the voucher they gave me was for a generous £5 which would offset any charge potentially incurred on a future purchase. In their email they also said that the problem was down to the bank, not themselves. Presumably, being a French company doesn't mean that they don't have a UK account for transactions.

That didn't happen when I did it. Is it just Natwest?:money:
