Looking into having Sky/Virgin TV

Hello All!

I used to have Virgin internet only, then i cancelled and got a 3 dongle - only paying £10 a mnth!

Now, i'm considering getting extra tv channels but who's it cheaper with? Plus, i would ideally like to be able to pause/fast forward etc the tele and have Sky Sports...

I'm just cautious not to end up paying a small fortune, when i've just finished paying a fortune for my internet!

Thanks

It all depends on what you want.

Freesat or Freesat from Sky would be cheaper than taking out a Sky or Virgin subscription but it depends on whether the channels provided on those platforms are suitable or not.

If you want Sky Sports or Sky Movies then it is going to come at a cost no matter which service you use. Sky Sports is quite expensive and you can only get the "full" Sky Sports package on Sky nowadays, although what you can't get isn't really that important.

Sky have more channels overall but both Virgin and Sky provide the vast majority of the "good" channels. Sky has more HD channels than Virgin, but HD channels are cheaper with Virgin.

Both Sky and Virgin provide a box which can pause, record and rewind live TV. Virgin's box can record 2 channels while you watch a third, while Sky's is either record 1 while watching a second, or watch a recording back while recording two.

But as I say, it depends what you're actually looking for. Sky Sports on its own (for Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and 4) is likely to cost around £25 per month no matter which service you use, but costs are affected by other packages you may have. It's worth noting that Sky Sports is sold in different packages so if you want all the Sky Sports channels you have to make sure you're getting a package that includes them all, otherwise you may find yourself with Sky Sports 1 and 3 but not 2.

Virgin prices are also affected by whether you have a Virgin landline or not.

I suggest taking a look at the two companies websites to see what you can get for your budget...
