Nectar - Such an Inconvenience
Options

It's great that Nectar has so many partners which means one can collect loyalty points from so many different places, and has so many options when it comes to spending those points.
But what's not great is the inconvenience of ensuring that the points are credited to your account.
Firstly to be eligible for the Nectar points, one needs to remember to go to the partner site via the Nectar site. Why can't this be simplified? While making the purchase the partner site can ask for the Nectar card number. When you shop at Sainsbury's or Tesco the person at the till asks if you have a Nectar card or Clubcard respectively. The customer does not have to worry about making sure that he/she doesn't forget to present the loyalty card. Why can't the same logic be applied to online purchases as well?
The Nectar toolbar simplifies this problem to some extent. If you have installed the Nectar toolbar then whenever you visit the partner site it shows a red status indicating that you are not collecting points for the purchase. You are then reminded to go via Nectar and the status turns green. If the site is not a partner the status remains Grey. However the toolbar doesn't always work. Many times Debenhams and Amazon have had grey status when they should have been red/green.
But the most frustrating bit is ensuring that points are credited to the account. Nectar comes up with Bonus points offer from time to time. Many times the bonus points do not get automatically credited. Even the points on purchases do not get automatically credited. And having to keep track of all the purchases, bonus offers and ensuring all points are credited is a tedious process. Nectar do not investigate missing points before 28 days which means you have to remember at least one month worth of purchases and bonus offers. But what irritates me the most is that even after 28 days I have to raise a query and follow up to get my points. If this was a one-off case then it could have been ignored. But this seems to be the norm and getting the points without having to chase looks like a one-off. It cannot be expected of customers to do such detailed tracking; that should be the job of their automated systems!
Please write back if you have had a similar experience with getting nectar points on online purchases.

No different to using cashback sites, you must use their link to be tracked.0

Yeah I've never got my points from Amazon, even going via Nectar site then Amazon. Can't be bothered to chase up. Never had a problem with cashback sites though so I know cookies, Javascript etc. aren't the problem.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's because they can track what you buy online much more easily compared to buying in store. In store they want to know what you're buying so they can send you offers, coupons, upsell etc., which is why it's important to them to make it easy to use your Nectar card.0 -
I had to chase my points from Amazon when I bought this lappie through them. Quite funny, I bought a Wii through Toys R Us and this lappie through Amazon, ended up chasing through Nectar detailing exactly what I had bought where, they came back to me saying that games consoles from Amazon did not earn points. I did not know that, but I did contact them and state that it was the lappie that was from Amazon and the console came from Toys R Us. I then ended up with the points being added, then some time later extra points seemed to come through from Toys R Us and from Amazon, so I got double!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Yes I have always found gaining nectar points very hit or miss. I done an order from Amazon and Game, got the points from Amazon, but not from Game and Game was on double points as well.
It's about time a nectar point total was shown on your final transaction.
Never tried to claim back missing points.0 -
Iv been using nectar to get through to the Amazon site as Iv bought quite a few christmas pressies from there. I annoyingly read today though''
Products added to your Amazon.co.uk shopping basket prior to clicking via nectar.com are not eligible for points, even if you complete the payment after clicking via nectar.com''
What a waste of time, I should have read the t's&c's sooner :mad:0 -
I thought I am the only one not getting nectar points via Amazon. It is a pain to claim back those missing points as you have to list everything so eventually I just give up. Waste of time to go thro' nectar.com.0

Hi all,
It's interesting to see that as well as going through Quidco to Expedia, you can also enter your Nectar card details in during checkout for 200 points...
One question though - I am making a booking for three rooms next year, can I book one room and checkout, book another and checkout and book the third - and get 600 nectar points?
Cheers

I agree with aballal - it's a nightmare keeping track of your points - I've got lots owed from shopping at Amazon via Nectar - does anyone know how long they take to appear on your statement? It's 5 o'clock somewhere!0

It sounds like I won't get my points then:( I wondered why they weren't showing. I really think they should have made it clearer, I usually keep things in the basket for ages while I consider them. Nectar only work for me with Sainsbury's. Not impressed.0
