Leaving a mobile contract early

Are there any circumstances in which one can leave a mobile contract without having to pay for the remainder of the contract?
I'm just curious - I have about 13months left on mine and am seeing so many deals which are £10 or more a month cheaper than I'm paying now. Vodafone are unwilling to let me reduce my bundled text/calls package to the next one down in order to save money - apparently I "can only upgrade and not downgrade".
Sooo.. I was wondering if there might be a way of getting out without being charged for it?
Or - even better - a way of convincing them to allow me to reduce my bundled package (and therefore reduce my monthly payment).

No.Or - even better - a way of convincing them to allow me to reduce my bundled package (and therefore reduce my monthly payment).
Generally - no. You signed a contract with them and now they have you by the balls.0 -
Of course you cannot get out of your contract without paying an early termination charge.
You have made an agreement to pay a minimum amount of money for a number of months and its legally binding.
You cannot downgrade on any of the YPL Plans, its a fixed miminum payment for the life of the contract.0 -
Of course you can't break a contract you've signed. Who do you think you are - a professional footballer? If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Hi guitarbloke,
Thanks for your post regarding cancelling your contract early and avoiding paying the early termination fees.
Unfortunately it's not possible to escape paying the early termination fees, although we may be able to take a look at your account to determine whether it's possible to reduce your monthly costs.
Please get in touch via email at this link. Please also include the code WRT135 in the subject field along with a link back to this page and we'll take a look at your account to see if it's possible to reduce your monthly line rental.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
LeeH

Yes there are.
But the reasons you have given don't fall into that category.0 -

My daughter has just separated from her husband and is on a very expensive monthly contract that she would like to downgrade preferably to a pay as you go but at least a much reduced monthly contract. She used to work in a call centre (T-Mobile) so she knows the rules and as expected when she rang she was told she couldn't downgrade because she started on the high contract.
Would her separation and consequential loss of income (she has had to move back to the UK mainland from NI so lost her job too) be circumstances that would be taken into consideration?
Thanks if there's a Vodafone rep who could help with this.

Your daughter has worked for TMobile and would be fully aware that separating from her husband and loss of income would not be a valid reason for the company to reduce the agreed line rental or waive the early termination charge.
Its still a valid contract and it has to be paid in full up to the expiry date.
There may be something which can be taken off the contract to reduce the cost such as insurance.0
