07005 number !!!! Aaarrghh !!!

Made the stupid mistake of thinking this was a mobile no so it would come out of my call allowance.

Anyway, had a conversation on my mobile for 30 mins. Not cool when I found out later what I'd done. Not cheap I'm guessing?

Well, not that I can even find the call costs from orange? Anyone put me out of my misery?

070 numbers are the "personal numbering" service, which enables the holder of the number to be contacted whatever their location. Calls can cost up to 50p, or a 51p fixed charge, from a BT landline. Other operators may vary.

I believe there should have been a recorded message informing you that you aren't dialing a mobile number.

The exact price seems to depend on which Orange tariff you're on. Some quotes from the Orange site:
Calls to 07 call forwarding services and 070 numbers are charged at 20p and 75p per minute.
Calls to 07 call forwarding services and 070 numbers are charged at up to 20p per minutes. Calls to 08 and 09 numbers are charged at up to 55p per minute and £1.66 per minute respectively.
Calls to 07 call forwarding services, 070 and 08 and 09 numbers are not included in bundle and will be charged up to a maximum of 25p/min, 55p/min, 55p/min and £1.70/min respectively or per call for 09 numbers.

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

I agree. What's even more stupid is that the personal numbers already had the 07 prefix before it was decided to use it to free up more mobile numbers. 08 couldn't be used (for obvious reasons) but 09 was available but they decided to use that for premium rate numbers (even though 0891 already existed). It's through the use of these 07 numbers that papers like Free-Ads make their money as you have to use one of them to contact the seller.

Just to confirm, 070xx personal numbers are 75p/min from an Orange phone, billed per second with a min charge of 75p.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
