Non receipt of an item

Hi all
I like to think of myself as a seasoned e-bayer - I've never had many difficulties, until now!
On 19 October, I won a Paraffin Lamp at a cost of £19.99 plus £8.00 p&p. This is a UK trader. On 24 October, I contacted them to ask when I might expect delivery only to be told they had only posted it out that day. It still hasn't arrived and I've chased up the vendor again to receive this reply:
I feel you are being just a little too hasty. I have both receipts to show the items were sent. May I respectfully suggest a little more patience - I am powerless over the items once they are in the hands of Royal Mail !!
I don't feel I'm being unreasonable - item won on 19 October and not received by me on 28 October. No comms from him until I've chased up the item. I paid by Paypal immediately.
Any advice on what I can/should do or am I being a "bit hasty" as he suggested?

Does he state in the auction how soon it would take him to post them out at all?
I would give another couple of days then file a dispute for item not received. He will have to respond and provide a tracking number - has he got one or did he just send it normal delivery?

I think you're being a little hasty - give it a few more days. I posted something 1st class also on the 24th Oct and got a message from the buyer today complaining that his item had not yet arrived, and he had planned to wear it tonight. I feel bad about the delay but there's not much I can do after I've posted it, unless it still hasn't arrived 3 weeks later, which would make it officially lost in the post.
I don't consider a 5 day gap between receiving Paypal payment and sending an item to be particularly unreasonable unless the seller specified a quicker handling time. As a buyer, I would normally wait a week before enquiring when the item had been posted.0 -
you should have received it by now. 1st class is next day, second is usually 2days, rarely 3. Ask for a scan of his PoP0

I imagine this would be sent via Parcels. In this sort of instance I would always wait until the post arrives on Monday.
Now on saying that I received an item posted on 19th yesterday I think 2nd class)!!!0 -
Lately parcels seem to be taking a lot longer than normaladam2484 wrote:you should have received it by now. 1st class is next day, second is usually 2days, rarely 3. Ask for a scan of his PoP
1st class should mean next day but at the mo this does not seem to be the case!!0 -
Thank you all for your replies.
In the listing it states it will be sent out by parcel post and I should expect it within 3-5 working days. When I checked with him on 24th, he said he had only sent it out as he didn't have any packaging for it! I asked him yesterday whether he sent it via a trackable method but he hasn't been forthcoming with this.
I agree that had he communicated with me, I'd have been happy and wouldn't have felt the need to chase him (twice).
I will wait until Monday and if nothing then arrives I'll file the dispute with e-bay.

Five working days takes you up to 31st October. Maybe wait until then before doing anything.0

When they say...blah blah only posted today, it usually means ...Oh heck they're complaining I better go and post it..0
-
I'd wait until tuesday too because I've noticed I never get any parcels, in fact never a lot of post, on a monday maybe due to the weekend.0

No surprise today to have nothing delivered but I will wait until tomorrow before I do anything further.
Any ideas guys what steps I should next take if it doesn't arrive (and to be honest, I'm not holding my breath on this one). Do I file a dispute with Paypal?0
