I worded that badly ... what I meant was the teens in my family/friends are into metal, emo, skater (or whatever, they wear skulls on everything anyhow lol) but I don't know any chav teenagers, so I don't know what's currently in favour. I didn't mean to sound anti-chav :o

Sorry, Zaksmum, I've only just come back to this thread...

at the time of typing he'd left his new winter coat (less than a month old and a really nice one from the Debenhams sale) at school. This was just 3 weeks after 'losing' his new school shoes (I know, he had PE last lesson and came home in trainers) and blazer (which have since been replaced, blazer by me, shoes from his pocket money.)

When my husband went to the school to look for the new coat in the lost property box he didn't find the coat as DS had actually bothered for once to look himself (I'd threatened him with no Christmas presents if he didn't and he knew I meant it) but did find the blazer and the shoes as well so now we have 2 of them

    Sometimes I despair...
Aren't they little horrors. My grandsons are the same...the eldest, at 11, lives in cloud cuckoo land!

socks and smellys at the end of the day its practical - I like the rc idea but i would be concerned if thats someone in a hostel I work for childrens services and that sorta stuff would just get nicked which might be a bit upsetting would be good for a low income family as that would probably never be bought :)

Well done for doing something like this its really nice of you

also the ideas of jackets, hats that sort of thing

cds, games etc are not a great idea as you would be surprised how many kids dont have anything to play them on.
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

For a child in care, or living in a hostel, I'd go for some clothes. It does wonders to a persons self-confidence if they've got some new glad rags.

  • pair of trainers off of ebay? Am thinking this as if things are tight its difficult for parents to get these. A couple of jumpers - ebay as well? one of those mobiles with a £10 credit (I think you can pick these up for around £10-15), a little mp3 player uploaded with some tunes, a couple of pre-bought cinema tickets for the local cinema/bowling?

Just trying to think of what my ds would have liked a few years ago - or now even!

  • Are you allowed to give vouchers? I'd go for a pack of Pringles and an Argos voucher in a shoebox wrapped in Christmas paper so it looks like all the other presents, but is actually much more brilliant because they can choose something they need or want for themselves.

I also got a teenage boy in the christmas tree appeal draw (we pull a name out of the bag rather than have a choice)......I went into allsports and bought a football and footie bag for it to go in and nice tshirt. I also grabbed 2 pouches of revels/m and m's from the pound shop and put them in.

I remember this is the type of thing my teen son used to like. And the sweets always go down a treat....x
