acer laptop slow

hi everyone, i purchased a new acer AS5672WLMI-166 from comet for 800 pounds but its not as fast, as i thought it would be for example sometimes it takes a long time to shut down and sometimes it just isnt fast enough as it should be?, any advice?
ive heard that you can delete the acer bundle and it makes the laptop superfast is this true?,
but what if i delete it and it makes no difference, how will put it back on.
thank you
anyone is a simpler problem with the same laptop.

Norton running perhaps? Norton and Mcafee are insatiable in gobbling up resources on Windows.

As a rule, the first thing I do with a new computer is format the hard drive and reinstall from scratch. I am not too familiar with Acer but on Dell laptops there is a whole ton of crap installed and running in the background, most of which isn't required.

When you say it isn't very fast, to what are you comparing it? If you are used to a desktop then pound-for-pound, GHz for Ghz a laptop will generally be much slower for a variety of technical reasons.

a few people have found that uninstalling the acer power management stuff speeds up the pc no end, there are earlier posts on this.
Ever stop to think and forget to start again?

Your laptop should have the option to burn a backup disk.. When this is done then you can restore it to factory defaults.

I took out all the Acer/Norton stuff from mine and it runs a lot better now.... Can even play Star Wars Empire At War now.

Yeah, I recently bought an Acer laptop, and for the spec, was surprised how slow it was.

I fixed this by formatting the drive, reinstalling Windows XP and not installing any of the Acer tools.

I also installed a tweaking program to help improve efficiency. Laptop runs smooth and quick now.

I too have bought an Acer Lappy and would love to get rid of all the unwanted crap. Under the 'Processes' tab, there's a ton of stuff gobbling up my resorces. God knows what they are!
With Acers, you dont get an XP disc, and have to creat a back-up disc at the start. But surely if you use the back-up disc, it'll just put all the unwanted stuff back on the laptop again?

I would like to re-install Windows on my Acer laptop. As I didn't get a WinXP disk, can I borrow a friends XP Home disk and install using the key on the licence sticker on the bottom of my machine?

Yes, using the recovery CDs will restore it to the same setup as when you first switched it on from new.

To get rid of the Acer crapware, without reinstalling Windows from an XP disc, you'll have to do a bit of manual tweaking. Make sure you create a System Restore point before doing so in case it goes awry.

Click Start - Run - type msconfig and click OK. On the Startup tab, look for items related to Acer and untick the boxes to disable them. A bit of Googling may be required to identify the items. For example there are some Acer power management items which could be disabled. If you don't use the touchpad then there are a couple of Synaptics items which can be disabled. Reboot the machine and see if it still works as you require; if not reenable the item and reboot. If OK, go into Add or Remove Programs and remove any applications you've just disabled.

I don't see why this won't work, as long as the XP license key isn't hardcoded into the CD and it allows you to enter your own key. You may need to download and install Acer drivers and utilities for things like the touchpad.

but is it an oem disk?

if it is windows/microsoft may class your laptop as running a pirated copy of xp and an oem disk is meant to be used with the computer it was bought for
