Right - I'm about to compose my letter of complaint. but I need a little bit of advice before I start.

    1) Do I need to reiterate the whole sorry tale from start to finish, or should I just explain that I've made 2 phone calls with no satisfaction?

    2) Should I ask for some sort of recompense for my time, missing out on an important occasion and several expensive mobile phone calls?

    3) If the answer to Q2 is "yes" - how much/what should I ask for?

    Thanks for any help!

I'm not used to complaining - but this has really hacked me off!

I have to say, that this morning I had to call the AA and the patrolman arrived within 10 minutes of my call, correctly diagnosed and dealt with my problem and was sooo helpful with the advice and assistance he gave.

Well, bully for you!:p :rotfl:

I have had good service from them in the past, but I've been a member since 1988:eek: and hardly used them, so I think I've paid enough into their coffers over the years to expect a decent service when I need it. especially when DH more or less diagnosed the fault and they ignored him!

  • Quite frankly, you could do worse in a letter of complaint than simply to cut and paste your original post! It tells the story clearly and succintly. Just change the 'yesterday' bit and add some stuff about how disappointed you are not to have had a response to your telephone call. :D

    Dear Sir or Madam

I wish to complain about the service I received from the AA recently, and also about the lack of response I have had to my original complaint.

Blah-d-blah posher version of my original post!

When I asked how I was supposed to know the name of a road in a strange area, he pointed to the name of my road, and said, "See - this is in the middle of nowhere, and even this has got a name". I know that - because I live there! However, I would not be happy walking down an unlit rural road in the hope of finding its name.

I gave my exact location and the driver drove straight past because we were "in the middle of nowhere".

What's that "You've got AA friend" advert, where you rescue someone from a cliff top in the middle of nowhere? I presume the cliff also has a name and postcode?

We arrived home at 9.50 p.m. and our car arrived (after a phone call from the driver to check where our house was) at 10.30. One final irony was that just as we opened the front door, I received a text message from the AA informing me that our patrol was on its way, and would be with us by 9.50.

We were very tired, cold and hungry by this point. Our special evening had been ruined; we had had no food or drink for over 5 hours, and I had constantly had to chase the AA using the 0800 number, which is not free from mobile phones. When we got home we had no food in the house as we had intended spending the weekend away, and it was too late to get a meal at the pub.

On Saturday afternoon (28th October) I telephoned the AA to make a complaint. I spoke to a very nice man who expressed horror at my experience and assured me that he would pass it on to a manager who would get in touch to offer some recompense.

When I had not heard anything by yesterday (6th November) I phoned again and spoke to a woman who said someone would phone me later in the day.

Nobody has been in touch with me.

I must say that I am extremely disappointed with the service I received – as are my family and friends. We have been loyal members of the AA since 1988, but are now seriously considering our future with you. We have never abused your service, yet we have been let down when we needed you most.

I look forward to your response.

    Yours faithfully

I stopped using the AA a few years ago, they are useless.

  • Hmm... just went to email the letter but the website only has a contact form (which is too small for my long letter!)

Now want to contact someone high up - but can't find out who to target. Any suggestions?

Post it, record it so someone has to sign for it, then it can't be lost in the post.

Hi Shocking-pink - if you type AA Chief Executive or Centrica Chief executive (as they own AA)into Google, something will come up and you could send your letter there.
Also another little tip - put watchdog by all means but if you have a national news paper handy put CC: (journalists name) and (newspaper)
You might not have any intention of contacting the journo but believe me it works....(Ps done this with BT and at the moment Orange - big result with Bt and awaiting the response from the `big man' at Orange.....
Please let me know how you get on
    Love sas x
