He drove into the back of you, his fault, end of story. I'd be getting onto his insurance to make a claim.

Since it's an old Mondeo this may well write your car off which sounds like it would be a bonus in your situation.

    406 HDi.

I've got a saloon, and it's the best car I've ever had.

Does between 45-55mpg, and is as comfy as hell.

Make sure you get the 110bhp version.
That's my mutt in the picture above.

Vauxhall Omega Estate 2.5 TD. Go on treat yourself and get one in Elite trim - yummy.

The classic diesel that never dies is a Peugeot. The HDi is a bit high tech but if you can find a 2.1 TD (think they only came in higher spec) then that could be good.

My husband has had his 12 year old Peugeot 306 for a couple of years now and loves it. Powerful workhorse it's cost us barely anything to repair the few probs we've had as they are easy to work on and parts are cheap. He's just treated it to a pair of winter tyres!

I learned to drive in it and although I now prefer a slightly smoother ride I have to say it was a darn good car. Very economical and good power and handling.

  • Friend has an old 406 diesel estate, fantastic car, just keeps going and going - not sure of mileage now but I know it had done about 160k this time last year and he still uses it daily for his business.

The Golf Mk4 TDI diesel is in the price range and is amazing value for money. Mileage is not an issue if they are serviced properly, I've had 3 that have done over 160K without problems and my neighbour with the same engine in his taxi had over 225k on clock.

Even better car tax is £110 py with these engines as well as 50mpg+ from them.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
