    What flour do you use? I've found some flours (esp. Morrison's!) give me a smaller, dense loaf. Sainsbury's and Asda's - a fair bit lighter. Best results with Carrs and Hovis. Wholemeal flour sems to have less variation in quality and Dove's is cheap in Asda at the moment.

    Ive use hovis & tescos own, will try carrs, see if that gives me a better result.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    I managed to pick up a copy of ' The Ultimate Bread Machine Cookbook ' from a charity shop a couple of days ago, 30p bargain!

    The question is, where it shows ingredients for a medium loaf, do I use the large loaf setting on my Fastbake?

    Just picked up a Morphy Richards fastbake off freecycle...just waiting for the kneading paddle to arrive from the manufacturer (this one was missing, cost £3 to replace!) then I can join in the fun!!

    blitz- just like you I have had my MR FB for quite a few years sitting on the top of my kitchen cupboards after the same disappointing results from the manual BUT I have just made my first loaf using the recipe that is on the side of the packet of sainsburys strong white flour and it turned out lovely!!! I even had to try some straight out the BM just to make sure and it was wonderfully light and airy but now i have indigestion dammit!!!

    Recipe as follows:
    320ml 20fl oz warm water
    500g 20oz strong white flour
    25g 1oz butter
    1 tbsp sugar
    1 1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp fast action yeast

    I put it in my BM in that order and used setting 2 (large loaf not dark crust) hey presto 2hr 50 mins later a lovely loaf!!! good luck

    I may give this a go today. So you used the French bread setting and light coloured crust, how did this compare to a shope bought sliced loaf?

    What I mean is was it a type of close knit bread or more open like when you cut into a baguette?

    When I put mine on a setting 2 large loaf, it comes up as 3 hrs 50 (not 2h50) - I am giving your recipe a try, will let you know how it goes!:D

    Do you melt the butter before adding it?

    Can anyone help?
    I am trying to make a white loaf using my Morphy Richards fast bake BM the only prob is i have lost the measuring cups :rolleyes:

    Water - 11/2 cups = ??
    Skimmed milk powder i dont have any
    sugar 2 1/2 tbsp ok
    salt - 2tsp ok
    stong white bread flour 4 cups = ??
    dry yeast - 2tsp ok

    setting - basic white

    Can i miss out the milk powder ? or add something instead?
    does any one have actual measurements for the water and flour ?

    Hi all interested in my recipe! lol I feel so important!!
    I didn't melt the butter before i put it in but it was soft.
    My BM is a good few years old, just been in hibernation so I'm sure there are new models with different settings. setting 2 on mine says basic white large (1 1/2 lb) and is 2hr 50mins. The brown bread settings are 3hrs + but not the white.
    It wasn't a french bread setting so the bread was more dense(little bubbles) a lot closer to shop bought but much more flavour. I was really pleased with it- I hope it works of someone else too!! good luck and tell me how it goes.
    I have my BM going at the mo with my first try of Apple Braid dough so fingers crossed, cos I need to take something to bribe my mum tommorow so she will have my kids over night sometime next month!!!
