I thought it was abit funny when yesturday morning I got up to find our bin lid open, and our neighbours across the way. Another neighbour has just been across to say they found someone routing through the bins in the early hours.

Any advice on how to keep ourselves safe? Is it worth investing in a shredder?
Buy a cross- shreader ONLY immediately. I have a FELLOWS. Be sure to slap some fine oil on the blades monthly.

  • my workplace has shredding bins that are locked and then a man comes in once a month and crushes it in his lorry - that's where every single bit of personal information I chuck out goes. If I didn't have that I would definitely have a shredder

I had over a grand taken from my account a few years ago and still had my cards!

also, our bins get collected on Monday - we keep all bags in the shed until Monday morning and then OH is out in his slippers putting them out :)

I agree with that aswell, my shredded paper goes into the recycle bin but I put it out the day it is collected. If it's not in the bin they can't search through it.
One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • I went through 2 normal shredders before buying my cross cut shredder from WH Smith....probably could have got one cheaper....but it did have £10 off so I did save...

It shreds cards to....so pleasurable shredding credit cards:D

Then I tend to split the bit of paper into different bags before I bin them...just to make sure.....

Before shredders it was the scissors....but that aches after a while!

Oh yes, we compost all our shredded paper. It actually improves the quality of the compost. Nobody will be getting their dirty mits on my personal details from the bin.
I'd be tempted to put something really unpleasant in the bin too, to teach them a lesson - a mousetrap perhaps? :D
