Advice - people routing through our bins

I thought it was abit funny when yesturday morning I got up to find our bin lid open, and our neighbours across the way. Another neighbour has just been across to say they found someone routing through the bins in the early hours.

Any advice on how to keep ourselves safe? Is it worth investing in a shredder?

    its worth telling the police!

Were they on your garden, thats trespass.

my sister had her identity stolen, and it wasnt THAT bad, but she was emergecny taxed for almost 2 years, as someone was fraudeltnyl using her NI no. That really stuffed her financially

  • We shred every single piece of paper that has ANY personal details on it.
Would suggest getting a shredder that 'cross' shreds!

We had a similar problem - living in Bradford - with late night prowlers digging though the bins. We were skint students so bought a manual mini-shredder from Stationery box for £2.99 - then used the shredded paper as bedding for the hamster. I think our identities were safe after that!

Yes, definitely a cross shredder as i managed to find a receipt id accidentally shredded and sellotaped it back together to get a refund!! (The woman in M&S was impressed!)

Shred them as much as possible with scissors until you buy one, kids love helping with this if they are old enough to have scissors. Smaller the better. If really concerned they can't put ashes back together! Some I know soak them in water. Cross shredders worth the extra, but also I mix and seperate the shredded bits.
One day I might be more organised...........
