htc desire hd/iphone what deals?

My htc hero contract ended a few months back and ii been happy with phone,but i always fancy a new phone when the contract ends,i am still paying for the contract and not ended it yet,but it was on a 12 month contract seem to be rare to get that these days and what i really wanted.
18 months would be my next option just lets say i am moving overseas and i not be here after that.
I have been looking at a htc desire hd and wondered who or what site is best to find the best deals around,i am looking for unlimited internet as i use that often as for call mins and txt not too bothered about them being high as i dont use that too much.
But im sure i have read some good reviews on the htc desire hd?one offer i seen says i can transfer keep my old number how can they do that?I would like to keep my old number as many have this and it be a pain to have a new number,what happens here as i am with t mobile would i need to wait till i had this new contract or offer i seen from someone else or could i cancel my contract and still be able to get my number,just not sure how this works.

Is it worth calling t mobile on the above phone and see what they offer,i have found them very hard in past to get a good deal or a tarrif etc i wanted.

I am also interested in a iphone 4 but they seem to be expensive and the monthly cost seem to be the same or am i just looking in the wrong places?

was looking at same deal,dont think iphone is one for me yet unless they become much less and the month cost,but the hd looks nice seen this in a shop yesterday and im sure i read its one of the best ones around in par with iphone,just like htc hero was when it came out.
I dont know when it says transfer of phone number what this means?can i use my old number and how does it work,i am still under contract with t mobile well the 12 months was up a few months ago but not canceled and been holding off on what to get or whats out there to get.

Maybe t mobile can offer me such deal on the hd but dont think so,but do i cancel my contract or wait till i get this one if i did,just unsure about the transfer of number,not into 18 months contracts but seems to be the norm these days

Seems to be a problem with this phone continually rebooting itself so check around the forums first.

And poor battery life too, I'd wait a bit before committing to the HD if I was you.
