JJB don't understand Sale of Goods Act

I'm frustrated beyond belief at JJB Sports who had the audacity to charge me the price increase on a pair of goalkeeping gloves. I bought the gloves as a present for a young friend and he was too polite to tell me they were not only different sized gloves but both left handed ones! I took them back to JJB who willingly changed them, asked for my receipt and promptly charged the price increase! They agreed that if I had NOT had receipt, they would just have swapped them! They then tried the guilt trip over how long I had had them before noticing!
Company policy apparently. I am now going to write to MD and ask for his comments. The helpline operator was unbelievable. "How can we be expected to run a business if we don't charge price increases?" was his response.
No understanding of statutory rights at all!!
Grrrrrrrrrr

JJB may not understand the sale of goods act but trading standards do!
If I were you I would write to head office mentioning goods unfit for purpose and how disappointed you were with stores reaction and that you cannot believe that "to ignore sale of goods act is company policy?"
Bet you get an apology and voucher

How frustrating is it that such large companies can do this though?
I have written and addressed letter to MD, will send it recorded delivery to see if that helps.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Used to know someone who was a manager at JJB.They are reputedly one of the worst companies to work for and go through their staff like nobody's business.Needless to say he left after 5 months.!!I want money..........that's what I want !!:j0

Well 14 days have gone and they still haven't replied to my recorded delivery letter. Excellent Service - NOT!!!
I've now written again saying that I have no option but to make a formal complaint to trading standards. It all seems a bit silly over a couple of pounds but it's the principle.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Good for you Firefly! I hope they get a sharp slap on the wrist and a fine. Just think about it, if they do this all the time then they must be raking it in!
I'm totally disgusted that they charged you an increased price on stuff you had already purchased but was not fit for the purpose. Get writing that letter now to Trading Standards as surely this is something they would be very interested in.Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out

Oh trading standards were very interested! I phoned them for advice after the original 'incident' and they logged the complaint, telling me to get back to them if I didn't get a response from JJB.
The complaint has now been formally made. They have advised me to write again (which I have) and they will now follow up.
I'll keep you posted.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Just out of interest how long had you had them before you returned them?
