Hi I have been looking at getting the i phone 4 but as I have an itouch i just cant justify spending the cash on an iphone, I hate being in long contracts, 18 month with my Sony Erricson C905 drove me scatty so idea of 24 month not good. Would like PAYG.

I have been looking at the San Francisco phone - I can get £20 teacher/student discount off in the Orange store, so £80 plus £10 top up. Am with tmobile on a rolling SIM monthly deal for £10 so need to look about see what would suit best - dont need many minutes but do need unlimited texting and would need internet access for when out so dont know how much I'd need. Was offered the Dolphin plan at Orange for £18 instead of £20 but need to read up on that.

I think I would maybe look to get it unlocked but I'm not good technically with phones so would have to leave it with Orange apps etc on - unless I can find someone who can 'de orange' it!

Reviews seem good, I basically want a touch screen phone that I can use for some calls, texts and internet access when out/at work breaks.

Would this phone be easy to use for facebook etc? My current phone is awful for internet, I dont even try! How much data should I look for - would be going for a sim only deal.

Thanks for any replies:)

you can unlock it for free read this

as for the orange apps it does come with a fair few, including a custom launcher, but you can easily change the launcher to stock android using an app in the menu (watch this from 5:25 to switch it) other than that you can change the wallpaper from the orange one.

other than that you can easily root and flash a custom rom to debrand it, but it doesnt need to be done and is not suggested for someone who doesnt know what they are doing.

two major reason to root and flash the custom rom is for 1. google navigation and 2. google voice search, both of which are very good.
