currys and sky starter kit??

hiya, has anyone bought a new tv lately from currys? i did today, a 22" for daughters bedroom for xmas, anyway the lad gave me the sky starter kit and said all i have to do is phone sky up and get an engineer out ( no charge) all they will ask you to do is subscribe.. well all she wants is multi-room so it sounds fairly straightforward ( that's if i can get hold of sky at the moment but they are always busy)

the lad in shop said not to let them try and get me to have what i dont want, you know what they are like!!

sounds fine but there is bound to be a catch somewhere, there always is... i need someone out anyway to set it up as it wont work until i get some sort of aerial sorted for it for everyday use including digital telly

OK I'm lost, its just an invitation to sign up to Sky? what's all this start up kit marketing nonsense? if you goto http://www.sky.com/shop/new and sign up there you get the same deal but £100 M&S vouchers

    or am I missing something?

But with regards to the OP statement that all she wants is multiroom, can you explain what you mean and what you wish to acheive? as I dont think this is the deal you think it is.

basically, i went to buy a telly for daughter for xmas and she was winging on that she would like to watch sky in her room ( i dont mind as long as she pays and it will free up more space on my box downstairs!)

so i saw a telly and currys had an offer on to do with sky and if i phoned a number up i could get it installed for free ( the box) in her room....obviously multiroom does not come for free so there will be a monthly charge for watching sky upstairs...

we have already got sky plus downstairs.. my feeling is that this offer isnt what it seems and i haven't signed for anything so that isnt a problem..

my only whinge is having to phone sky ( the charge for the call as i dont seem to get through on the free number for some reason,) and when i phone sky i will get waffle off them and it probably wont apply to existing customers blah blah.....

    Try this number 0800 0466432

If you already have Sky, forget what Currys said. Their offer is for a new Sky installation.

Ring them up and just ask if they have any special offers on for multi room. you may just get free installation
    and some months free subscription.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

thanks for that, as it happens i have multiroom in MY bedroom which isnt actually working at the mo ( it wont come off standby- red light- i have tried all the usual things, turning it off etc to no avail) so when i ring i will mention that problem and ask about if any offers on another multiroo,

does daughter need a phone line in her room though???

All Multiroom boxes must be connected to a working extension socket. If you don't do this then you'll eventually be billed for 2 separate subscriptions.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I am thinking of phoning up someone local but
can an independant tv/satellite man do this? i need:

    1. a telly set up in daughters room
    2. a telly set up in sons room ( attic bedroom)
    3. sort out my sky box in my bedroom that has been stuck on standby and i have tried all the usual things and it wont budge off red light

i did manage to get through to sky in the end on their o845 number!.. anyway, the starter hd set is £10 for multiroom and £10 for HD ( this is what daughter would like in her room but i dont think so!!

and then i asked if they could sort out my box in the bedroom that is stuck on standby.. and i would have to pay for an engineer to come out so back to my original question....

    SEE ABOVE...

i would rather pay a local tradesman to do all the jobs at the same time, that is if he can ......
