Open a second ISA having not put money in the first?

Afternoon All,

First post on here, wonder if anyone can clarify something for me? I recently opened a Santander Cash ISA having seen it listed in the MSE emails. However, 6 weeks later there's still no money in it cos Santander are doing their utmost to be obtrusive and awkward. They first failed to tell me I had to set up a direct debit in order to make payments, having tried to pay money in online and had nothing happen, I eventually got a letter from them indicating I needed to set up a DD. I duly filled in this paperwork 2 weeks ago, not been set up.

I have called them on a number of occasions, and have been shunted around between various departments and phone numbers, with no-one actually being able to help me. Last night took the biscuit when I was transferred to a department that was closed (it was 9.30 pm, but I had asked the guy if he was sure they were open - he was adamant they were).

Anyway, I'm fed up with Santander's appalling customer service and would like to open another ISA (probably Halifax, they were next on the list). Can anyone confirm for me that as long as I have not paid money into the Santander one, I am free to do this? I'd ask Santander but a) I don't honestly think they'd know, and b) if they did tell me something I don't think I'd believe them!

Thanks for any help,
Al.

Yes you can. I would close down the Santander one down first though, if you leave it open you will msot probably find they take money from your account after 6 months for no apparant reason.
  • Wow - quick answer, thanks for that  I suppose it would be too much to hope that I can just log on to Santander and click the 'Close' button for the new ISA! No doubt I will have to deal with their customer services people one more time. Still, as long as its the last I might be able to cope.

I did that with the Bansley BS. Opened the account, misinformation, closed that account without depsiting, and opened with Principality, into which I have deposited.
