email account

Hi

My old computer died on me and I'm picking up my new one tonight.

Can someone please tell me how I do the new email?...obviously I had an email account on my old computer with some important emails on there

Have I got to start again from scratch and create another email account with a different email address?

sorry if this is a stupid question to most of you but I'm clueless on this type of thing

Thanks

No you don't need a new email address. Who was your email address with? that is the bit after the @ commonly hotmail.com or sum such.

Although unlikely to have access to your old emails you can work on getting those back later.
  • Was you using an email client such as outlook? If its just a standard gmail/hotmail type account then unless you had it setup to access through a client there would be no need to change/setup anything as you should be able to access it through a browser.

If the disk hasn't died, you can still get at the data using a usb-hd caddy

google usb caddy and all will become clear

similarly, your isp will probably have instructions on how to configure your email client for their service

ic24 looks like it is now part of madasafish - email setup here, select ic24 in the provider box (top right) and click change, then select your email client from the list.
You will need to know your email password to set it up.
  • really sorry for the lack of computer knowledge but how do I get outlook express...I think this is why I can't get my emails. I think my email account on my old computer was 'outlook express' but I have 'microsoft office outlook' on this new one

    are these the same thing?

No they are not the same thing:
Outlook is part of MS Office, so will work with most Windows versions
Outlook Express is part of XP and earlier Windows
Windows Mail replaced Outlook express in Vista.
Windows 7 has no email client, so you need to use Outlook, or Windows Live Mail, or something like Mozilla Thunderbird.

What OS do you have now?
  • Hi davb

my old computer was XP and my new one is Windows 7
