Hi,
Sorry newbie here, I know Im late to the party but if possible, please can I join the challenge?
I am hoping the challenge will keep me on the path to be debt free (except morgage - loans out of the way first) by the end of the year. Today I cleared and removed my overdraft and closed my only credit card but still have a couple loans left. So hopefully by cutting back on spending, doing extra work outside of my 9-5 job and hopefully a pay-rise and bonus this year i should be able to make it.
Total For Challenge/DF: £14949.81
Many Thanks

Welcome Andy, it's never too late to join us! I will add you to the list properly tomorrow, but good luck with the debtbusting! Well done on getting rid of the overdraft and credit card.:T"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I just won £10 on a scratchcard, woo hoo! (Not very MSE I know :rotfl:). I left £5 in my lottery account to play with, and withdrew the other £5 which has been paid straight off my credit card."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Sorry I haven't checked in for a while...everything has gone a bit mad...I've spent an extra £1386 from the overdraft, & paid back a combined total of £105.62 to my parents & the credit card...so I'm unsure if I should count this until I have paid back the large sum of money I now owe to my overdraft?
Before anyone thinks I've gone insane, it is 25% of our venue & food for our wedding, I've not just gone out & bought a flashy new telly or anything! & according to my calculations, should be paid back within 2 months...which again I assume I don't count towards my total?
Oh I don't know, it's late & I'm confusing myself now! Lol.:idea:Debt at July 2012: £12,862.57

100% paid off!

Hi All
I would love to join this thread. Currently have about £9K of debt to pay off and need motivation to do so. This is about £600 on my credit card (down from £4000) and a loan which has around £8,500 left on it. I would like to pay these off as soon as I can and then start working on my mortgage.

Pernicious, when I have to make any extra purchases that add more debt, I don't count them. I just pay them off and leave my old total as before. Otherwise it gets 'cheaty', cos you look like you've paid off more than you have but actually your net amount that you've paid off is lower. I think that's what you were saying as well!
Congrats on the wedding.0 -
Don't forget you need to actually cancel the cards too, otherwise your credit account will remain open. It took Lloyds TSB almost a year to close my account down despite repeated pleas from me.
Hi sarahs999
Thanks for the advice (got the same from someone on another thread), I hadn't actually thought about cancelling the account even though it makes perfect sense. I have an egg card which I haven't used for yonks, so will cancel that as well.
