internet problems

We have a wired computer and a wireless laptop.

We are currently getting an exceedingly slow service on our wired computer and a slightly faster but not great speed on the wireless laptop. This has just happened since our provider upgraded our system. At the moment our son cant use his x box live either

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this as we appear to be going round in circles with our internet provider

Many thanks

Sarah

    Please define what was 'upgraded'

New Modem/Router? BT line? anything been 'moved' or newly connected? have you tried any broadband 'speed test' sites.

Did they change your speed by unrestricting it? or were you actually moved over to an LLU product?

Sorry im not very technical, they offered us a faster speed broadband, although we then had to reset our router settings with Belkin, after the upgrade. But neither computer has worked properly since. There was no cabling/bt issues as far as I know

Can you log on to your router and post your line statistics?

It would help diagnose the problem.

You may be able to find your router info here:-

Your ISP should be able to help you with this problem, it seems that they have caused it.

Well I suppose you could google for your router and find out how to extract your line stats.

The important ones are Synchronisation speed, noise margin and line attenuation.

BTW What was you speed before and what are you getting now?

Its also possible if the upgrade was performed in the last week that the line is being tested, its called DLM and will take a couple of weeks.

    BTW Who is your ISP?

sorry for the dalay, the internet was too slow to allow a connection.
our provider is eprimus or planet talk, i will try to check for the router and see if i can find the speeds.

I dont know what our prevoius speed was as it was never an issue, and we are now unable to do a speed test as it takes too long and the site times out

    thanks for the help sarah

I think you are being a bit overly technical with your questions. 99% of people haven't got a clue what "Synchronisation speed, noise margin and line attenuation" actually are.

To be honest, this could be quite tricky to diagnose via the forums. I would recommend giving your service provider a call and mention the issue to them. They should be able to guide you through the setup process.

Agreed, and as I suggested at post # 6.

I don't think anyone is going to sort this on here, the OP doesn't even seem to know who their ISP is for certain.
