Your contract would state prices are exclusive of vat :)

If they just upped their prices on a whim then you would have various options.

Unlike with 3 who are increasing their mobile broadband prices and not letting people out of contracts because they are hiding behind a clause in the contract that they can increase prices inline with inflation........ This increase is a couple of percentage points below inflation..... robbing gits, I wont be renewing come renewal time in a few months, all for the sake of 50p a month, I hope they have a party on my extra £1.50

Why should they pay for inflation??

Because they havent increased the prices mid contract for the last 3 years :) no other network increases prices mid contract........

They are just penny pinching and alienating thousands of loyal customers, a bit of goodwill to say they were increasing prices for new customers and keeping existing contracts at the same prices would have went along way.

But no, they would rather have an extra 50p from thousands of people instead of having people renew their contracts.

    Great business plan..........

They've kept costs down for three years and now need to make an increase? Surely the penny pinching has served you well over the last three years.

it may be 50p but they will still be the cheaper of the boig boys and very very few people will move due to an extra 50p a month
  • I think the problem here is not that they are raising the prices but how they are doing it ! If they put a £1 on all new contracts no one would probably bat an eyelid (its just because they are being sneeky)

When vat went down to 15% we all paid less, then at 17.5% and soon to be 20% we have to pay more

3's t&c allow you to cancel if they increase charges

4.1 We may vary any of the terms of your agreement, including our Price Plans, on the following basis:

    (a) any updated Price Plans and new terms will be available on our website and on request to 3 Customer Services;

    (b) if you are a Pay Monthly Customer, we will let you know at least one month in advance if we decide to:

    (i) discontinue your Price Plan; or

(ii) make any variations to your agreement which are likely to be of detriment to you; or

(iii) increase the fixed periodic charges for your Price Plan (if applicable) by an amount which is more than the percentage increase in the Retail Prices Index Figure (or any future equivalent) in any twelve month period.

You can end the agreement for such variations as explained in Section 10. Subject to the above, you will not be able to end the agreement if such variation or increase: ............................................................

10 (d) Within one month of a detrimental variation to your agreement.
You can end the agreement within one month of us telling you about a variation to your agreement (which includes your Price Plan) which is likely to be of detriment to you. You must give notice to 3 Customer Services within that month and your agreement will finish at the end of that month once we receive your notice. (A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.)

But you would need to act within the 30 days. (This post relates to 3, not Vodafone)

Its a fact almost that all operators are putting the price up in January . VAT + Increase + Price Rise .

Not when they say the increase is inline with inflation, because they have a clause that allows them to do this.......

The actual increase is 1.5% below inflation, they are just hiding behind this clause, I cant be bothered having it out with them because I only have 3 months left, but im sure someone could argue that the clause isnt valid because the increase doesnt match inflation.

Email I recieved from 3 after I sent a cancellation request.

    Dear Mr Snakeeyes21,

Thanks for confirming security on your account.

In response, you would not be eligible to cancel your contract without payment of an early termination fee.

The price changes are in line with inflation and because of this, there is no change to your contract with us. We would refer you to our terms and conditions section 4.1b iii
where we advise that we may have to put up prices in line with inflation (
    RPI).

If you still want to cancel your contract, please advise our customer service team and the early termination fee will be added and 30 days notice applied to your account.

    Kind regards,
