Fresh bread on boxing day?

  • Another vote for the part baked bread which is sealed in packs until you need them. All of the supermarkets do them now, Aldi have very nice rolls and ciabatta.

Here's another thumbs up for the Aldi part-baked rolls. They have a lovely selection - French bread, Ciabatta and seeded rolls.

Making your own is too much trouble on boxing day (well one in a panasonic breadmaker is easy, but wont be enought to go around) so +1 for the part bakes!

My local Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys are all open on Boxing Day but usually from 9am. Would maybe want to double check with them if the bakeries are running though.

You could try any of the newsagents that sell some food items, but saying that they may struggle to get fresh, but good luck anyway in your search.

As others have said, most supermarkets are open Boxing Day, I know my local Morrisons is. Marks and Spencer will be closed though, so no bread from the food court obviously.

Sainsburys put their stores on a rota, to give everyone a chance to have Boxing Day off which is nice of them.

Stores in London, more chance of being open on Boxing Day but stores outside London are on rota. Ashford and Folkestone in Kent are open this Boxing Day but they weren't last year. Maidstone was open Boxing Day last year, but it's shut this time.

I cannot see why the Bakery shouldn't be open, as they are trading Bank Holiday/Sunday hours anyway. Check your local supermarket using their website and store locators, they should have Xmas hours up on them. Then give them a ring and find out if they will do Fresh Bread baked for that day.

Wow I'm surprised to read about all the stores that are due to open!! I remember the year before last driving round every supermarket (large and small) and local shop I could think of, to try and get bread, and not one was open! I know my local Tesco certainly is not although I think the little Tesco Express by me does plan to open this year - it doesn't have a bakery though.

yeah OP I was suggesting freezing the rolls / baguettes etc, although now so many other people have suggested the part baked rolls, that does sound like a better option! They are yummy!
  • Even if the supermarket (and the bakery) are open, why waste time going there.

The part-baked ones are good, or freeze some rolls etc before hand and defrost in microwave.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
