paraffin heater in room with gas meter?

Hi all, I have three small outhouses joined to the main house, they are brick built and cold and contain water pipes that have been freezing at an alarming rate, so I want to heat them slightly to stop any damage - so I thought what about a small paraffin heater! Cheap and would do the job cheaper than electricity and gas... but in one of the rooms, the biggest one, there is the main gas pipe and meter...
Do you think it would be dangerous to run a naked paraffin heater in there?
Thanks!!
