How do I connect to my pc wirelessly

I have a desktop pc that is at the moment connected to a wireless speedtouch router using an ethernet cable. The pc/router are in a different room to the phone line into the house and the router is connected to the phone line by a long wire which runs under the carpet across the hallway which is between the two rooms. We are changing the flooring in our hall and as such do not wish a wire to run across there anymore. I am pretty certain that I can get something which will allow my pc to connect to the router wirelessly so that I can put the router in the same room as the phone socket, but I don't know what such an item is called or whether I must make sure to get one with certain features and/or whether I should avoid certain makes/models.
I would very much appreciate any guidance in this:)

Or you could get a wireless usb "dongle" but that depends on distance from the speedtouch and the thickness of your walls or other wireless inhibitors or interferors eg a microwave oven/video senders/DECT fones4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Powerline are good but suffer from noise and are not as secure as other methods
USB dongles are better but the connection is not as reliable
The better and more reliable way of doing it is to buy a PCI wireless network adapater card which just slots into the PCi slots on your motherboard. There are videos on youtube which show how you fit a card into the motherboard so if you are fairly handy with a screwdriver I'd give that option a goDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
Because Ethernet connections are (in my experience) so much easier to troubleshoot and generally provide a faster, more stable connection, I'd really try to lay a cable if I there was any way I could. Are there many differences between PCI and USB wireless adapters? What is it that makes the PCI ones more reliable? Sorry to ask - I'm just curious as I was about to buy a couple myself...0 -
Hi,
so, can I take it from this snaphot of ebay, that 108 MBPS, is most common and that cheapest is not neccessarily the best?0 -
Hi, www.dabs.com/products/d-link-802-11g-wireless-lan-pci-card-43C0.html - up to 54 Mbps bit has been more than fast enough for me and a doddle to install- although I got a used one off ebay for £4.0

the connection itself is more reliable, not so much the module, although the unplugging and replugging in of a USB stick as opposed to a PCI card permanently plugged into the motherboard could technically wear the USB out or expose the USB stick to damage.
Also a PCI network card will be assigned its own IP address / MAC address etc which a USB dongle doesnt and so needs a workaround to be assigned one (through software for instance)
The PCI card could also have a greater range for transmitting and recieving as you could (if you have the correct software) turn up the power to its transmitter - I don't think you would be able to through a USB dongleDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
Thank you all for your replies. I think I will go with the pci card. Are any of these more suitable than the others please?

The first two links are not wifi cards so no use. I would get the TP (last link).604!0
