Help with not receiving recorded item

I brought an item from ebay and have not received it.
The thing is, it was sent 1st class recorded on the 6th December and i was sent the tracking number from the item, i went on line to see if where it was and discovered that it was delivered on the 10th, but i have not got it i even asked my neighbours to see if they have taken it but thay haven't.
I contacted the seller to see if they have used the correct address, that they have, to see if it was the correct tracking number, that they have.
What should i do?

I know they shouldn't, but is there any chance the postman signed for it on your behalf and left it somewhere safe ? Failing that contact your local sorting office and see what they say. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

There is not really a safe place to leave it outside so i dont think that that would be an option, they usually just post a red card through the door.0

Could you ask the postie the next time you see him? Failing that, i'd definitely try the sorting office - sometimes posties don't leave a card. I've had this problem a couple of times & it's been sat in the sorting office. I know it's hassle you don't need, but if the seller has been cooperative & open so far it may well not be their fault (not that you were suggesting it was). Also, I might be wrong here, but I think the seller can also request a copy of the signature from RM? It'll help the seller (and you too if you ask for a refund) if he needs to claim back from royal mail.
Here's a link from RM that might help too: http://postcode.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?catId=400145&mediaId=15400175
Good luck!0 -

Signed for on delivery though suggests it would not have been taken back to the sorting office as that would show as still in the system.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I don't have a regular postie, so could be a number of them. i will try the sorting office to see if they can help. but as it said signed for i am not sure if they can do anything
I did try to contact RM but with no luck as i have to wait 15 days before i can do anything, even thought it was supposed to be delivered 4 days ago.
So i am unsure what to do next?0 -

As far as the seller is concerned they have fulfilled their part of the sale, you need to address this issue with the Royal Mail, insist on a copy of the signature if they say it was delivered.
I had a Recorded Delivery packet on Saturday just pushed through my door obviously unsigned for, the postman called yesterday with another Recorded Delivery packet and when I mentioned the fact he had not got a signature on the one at the weekend he didn't seem to know what to say. He said "were you in, I was in a hurry"!!!!!
Surprise surprise the package shows as
Your item with reference **** was delivered from our **** Delivery Office on 13/12/10 .
Thank you for using this service.
Sorry, your electronic proof of delivery is not available at the moment.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
If you put the tracking number on the royal mail website there when the information comes on the screen there is the option to see the signature have a look and see if u recognize the name from someone in the street if it is your named signed but you didn't sign for it ... I would imagine the postie done it and has left it somewhere safe.
You could try contacting ebay, I had a buyer who had signed for an item but was not given it by postie.... he claimed a goodwill gesture from ebay as to be fair the buyer has down all they need to do Post it and have proof its delivered.0 -

This takes time and does not always appear even after the 5 days.

Thats true it was just an idea ....its so frustrating when this happens tho I feel sorry for the OP as i'm not sure there is much they can do0 -
I went to the sorting office and they were very unhelpful, nothing they could do.
When going on the RM tracking service it tells me "Your item with reference ********* was delivered from our ********* Delivery Office on 10/12/10 .
Thank you for using this service.

To get a copy of the signature costs £2.20 that is a bit unfair as it is them that lost the item. i have sent a few emails to RM with no reply.0
