Is the free xbox and kinect with carphone warehouse too good to be true.
My hubby is desperate for a xbox and kinect for xmas. We had decided we could not afford it, but just saw the advert on the telly for the free xbox, with kinect and games with carphone warehouse.
He is in need of a new phone and is currently outwith his contract and I was considering getting him a new phone for xmas. Is this the way to go to get all his santa wish list at the one time?

It's "free" to you but you'll "pay" in terms of the contract not being that competative. Best thing to do is consider it as a 24 months payment plan for the device, like catalog shopping.
For example take the HTC Wildfire, £40 a month / 24 months or the Nokia 1800 £25 PCM for 24 months. These are the high and low ends of the deal.
Thats £960 or £600 over the two years.
The same phones can be got from as little as £15 a month and £4.99 a month. However the cheapest tarrifs have less minutes but how many do you need?
Thats £ 360 or £120.
Clearly the extra cash buys the "toy". You'd be best looking at the contact attatched to the device and then finds the same phone without the gift and work out how free that gift it.0 -
Pay as you go mobile, living to a budget edition.
Step 1:- Phone plus £10 credit : £20 to £30.
Put money in a pot as a top up fund. Any left over goes to saving for a console and gadget.
Step 2:- stick with it.
Step 3:- console and gadget drop in price and or become reliable AND have money left over."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -
If you want the gift anyway then these deals are usually worth it.
You are just basically paying for the XBox over the 2 year contract.
But you will find it difficult to get all the elements (handset, inclusive texts/minutes and XBox) separately any cheaper.
Just work out the total cost over the contract and see if you think it's worth it.0 -
If you decide to go for this you need to see if you will even get the Xbox before xmas. They may not be in stock currently or they may just take longer to be dispatched (especially if there is high demand).0

When a reseller (which CPW is) sells an airtime contract they get a lump sum of commission from the network.
After covering their costs what they do with that is up to them; they can keep it as extra profit, subsidise the line rental through cashback to the customer, provide a phone, offer a free gift, or do all of the above.
So no, its not too good to be true, and CPW may be able to get an xbox cheaper than you could, and still offer you a reasonable deal on a handset and line rental.
One thing for sure though is that the Kinect bundle is most definitely not "free", you would almost certainly be able to get a much better phone on that deal without the gift.
You need to look at how much it would cost to get the phone and airtime contract they are offering on their own, and then work out if the extra per month you are paying for the Kinect pack is worth it. And of course when they'll have it.0 -
Without all the line rental etc hard to say how good a deal it but there is a listing of xbox deals at http://mymobiledeal.com/Mobiles-With-Free-Xbox-360.aspx notsure how many will also have kinect with them.
Also for kinect you need quite a large room to make the most of it, google it for more info. There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.0 -
