One Call "No Claims Discount Guarantee"

Options
Hi,

Has anyone heard of the One Call "No Claims Discount Guarantee" offered by the insurance broker onecalldirect?

I am still a little unsure as to if my NCB would be protected in the event of a crash.

I spoke to customer services who said should I have a fault crash and then wish to leave at renewal, they would issue me with a letter stating that;

One Call will issue you with confirmation of the number of year’s discount we matched in the issue of your renewal premium.

I asked if this came from the broker themselfs or the acctual insurance company, and he said the brokers. I then asked would other insruance companies accept this as proof of NCB and he said "Most of the big ones do"

Does anyone fully understand this process?

"Below are the full details of the One Call No Claims Discount Guarantee. If you have any queries regarding this then please contact us on 01302 554015.
Typically a Protected No Claims Bonus will only protect the discount percentage at the time of renewal, not the premium. Therefore, in the event of an accident where you were at fault, an insurer could increase your renewal premium, meaning that you will still pay more even if you have paid for Protected No Claims Bonus.
At One Call we believe this to be unfair so we offer you the One Call No Claims Discount Guarantee.
To help protect your renewal premium in the event of a fault claim occurring, One Call's No Claim Discount Guarantee will ensure that your renewal premium will be quoted at 10% below the best protected rate on the market.
If you find a cheaper quote for the cover you require elsewhere, we will price-match it and offer you a further 10% discount (a copy of the alternative quotation will be required).
To Qualify
You need a minimum of one year's No Claims Bonus from any insurer at the start of the policy period.
The Terms
One Call's No Claims Discount Guarantee will continue to discount your renewal premium unless there are two fault claims in any three year period. In this situation the One Call No Claims Discount Guarantee will be lost.

Some Definitions
  • We consider a fault claim to be where the cost of the claim was met by your insurer but could not be recovered.
  • Where the accident was not your fault or the driver was uninsured, you will not lose your One Call No Claims Discount Guarantee.
  • Your One Call No Claims Discount Guarantee will not be affected if you claim for a broken windscreen or window glass.
If you left us
  • One Call will issue you with confirmation of the number of year’s discount we matched in the issue of your renewal premium.
  • The No Claims Discount Guarantee is a One Call Insurance benefit and does not form part of your contract with your insurer. Some insurers may only accept confirmation of no claims from the insurance company.
  • Your insurance company will apply a No Claims Bonus in accordance with their own terms."

I don't know, but I took out their insurance yesterday for commencement on 15 January. On reading their material I am confused. I queried by e-mail and got the same information as given in this thread. I have queried this again and am waiting on a reply.

I want to know if I have a fault claim and then I move insurer (as I usually do each year), will I get the same number of years for NCD carried forward.

Does anybody know how this works?

    Thanks
  • It is confusing but I will soon find out in June as I took out their protection and was involved in a small collision in November where the other party made a claim against me.

I actually thought i was covered by my insurer for claims protection but it wasn't the case, Its One Calls own insurance policy and how that will effect my premiums i don't know.

I'll post up when my Insurance is up for renewal.

I want to know if I have a fault claim and then I move insurer (as I usually do each year), will I get the same number of years for NCD carried forward.

    Here's my understanding.

They are saying they will not reduce your NCD as a result of a fault claim.
They will send you a renewal notice which has X year NCD which you can use as proof with any other insurer.
This is commonly known across the industry as No claims protection.

    HOWEVER
This only protects your discount. It doesn't protect your premium.
This is best explained with an example.
Let's assume you have 50% NCD.
If your premium before discount is £1K then your premium after discount is £500.
If your premiium before discount after a claim is £2K then your premium after discount if £1K.
So it's really imoprtant to realise that NCD protection does not protect your premium.

What this "guarantee" offers you is that if you stay with One call they are promising they will beat the best premium elsewhere.
It's important to note that this does not mean it won't rise, they are simply saying they will beat the best quote elsewhere.

If you go somewhere else, then you will have to declare the fault claim (usually for 3 years) and in a lot of cases (not all) it will raise your premium.
My personal experience is that one claim is not too bad, but become a serial claimer and it's going to rocket.

    This is the catch!

Most of the big ones don't (accept a broker's "proof" of NCD)
  • 'No claims discount guarantees' and 'cheap policies' are less important than bad service, that can mess with enjoying your life or get in the way of staying alive

Just got cancer & 7 days car less, with One Call Direct, and no progress

1Call only provide a courtesy car after they have decided how bad the cars damage is.

How long they take to do that is awful.

It's been 7 days so far and today their computer does not show any progress and said they do not care one way or the other, that it is taking this long.

They will not pay for a hire car and any costs will be ours, if the car is not a right-off. It is our gamble and we are trying to save all we can for her cancer care.

My mother-in-law is trapped at home, just when she should be living her life to the full. And with no local relatives, she will need to take several buses to get to a Cancer treatment on Monday.

The call center lady 'Lucy' was officious and nice, but did not show any feelings, as did her line manager. When she phoned him.

There are no decision makers or senior staff at the call center, as it is the weekend. Bad when insurance is paid for 7 days a week!

The policy of leaving customers carless while they mess around making decisions is bad, but their response when it drags on is deplorable. Especially in such circumstances.

Consider those that offer to be with you in 30 mins, before one that leaves you with nothing for a week.
  • I forgot about this thread.
To cut a long story short you do get a guarantee certificate of no claims when your insurance expires with them.

saying that my Insurance premiums with one call shot up from £330 to £1200, which i obviously wasn't happy about so told them where to go. my Insurance policy was with LV underwritten by one call, so i gave LV a phonecall direct and they quoted me £270 which was even cheaper than the year before and included One Call's certificate of no claims.
