Rip Off Britain - Spectacles

Curses! Curses!
Don’t it make you want to swear?.
I’ve watched ‘’BBC’s ‘Rip Off Britain’’ today.
Once again Opticians have been exposed as money grubbing parasites, (or words to that effect).
The presenters of this programme; Angela Rippon, Gloria Hunniford and Jennie Bond have highlighted just how much lenses cost and the fantastic mark-up charged by spectacle providers.
It seems that 25 pence is the average cost of lenses, and that includes the more complex ones, so how on earth can Opticians justify the extortionate average charge for specs of £150 a pair? Which I've just paid a month ago.

Sick! Sick! :mad::mad::mad:

    Coffee, hot water and a cup from Starbucks probably costs 20p maximum. But I expect to pay staff wages, NI, advertising, electricity, equipment, rent, rates, management costs, chairs, tables, cleaners for the bog..... etc. So I pay £2 odd.

    £150 for something that costs 25p??? Plus the cost of the frames which probably only cost a few quid at most!!!
    Get real for goodness sake. How on earth can this be justified, no matter what the overheads. It's a rip off by any standard.

    Bifocals with medium thin lenses, but I would never buy designer frames, I selected from the cheapest brands I could find in the store.

    I got two pairs of single vision glasses for $60US delivered.

    My varifocals cost just over £100. Specsavers quoted nearly £400.

    According to the aforementioned three wise women. Even the frames are marked up at an unacceptable rate.
    I also remember several years ago, ‘Which’ Magazine had a go at Rip-off Opticians Within six months of their campaign the price of specs doubled. So it seems these opticians are thick skinned and don’t give a damn.

    And you can buy reading glasses in the Pound Shop.

    Not first class I agree but containing Frame and Lens.
    I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
