"I didnt even receive an email that my application has been successfull, after loggin in, i could only then see after a couple of days that the account is ready."

You will receive postal confirmation of your account opening containing your customer id and account number plus a guide to operating your account online. Mine arrived about a week after opening the account online.
Take my advice at your peril.

I applied to open mine on the 15/12/10 and sent £1 via FP which arrived and showed clear on the account next day.
I also received two emails, one welcoming me and the other with an application number.
Nothing by post yet although there could be a backlog for this account, which is now a closed issue.

When filling in the online application it did come up about already being a customer and to log in but I ignored this and continued with the application.

I was a previous customer, when the bank was about to go under, with long queues outside branches with people trying to get their dough, but I couldn`t remember ID or passwords after I closed the account then, so continued as a new customer.

A lot of providers don`t need hard copy ID and use credit checks or electoral register.

The issue is closed and 3% "instant" will be hard to find for a while.

I recieved both email and post, and had an account in the past at the same address so assume this speeded up the electronic id process. Post does have a backlog because of the weather.

Thanks for the advice. i will then wait for the letter to arrive to be sure about it. Nonetheless the friendly lady today on the phone said she would change the Interest frequency to annually from monthly.

But after checking it tonight, it still says monthly. :(
Did it change for you guys straight away after asking for it?

    Thanks,
    Houman

I would not worry too much about waiting for the letter. When you first applied for the account the letter would have been requested electronically so will only show what you originally asked for on your application.

Personally I would go ahead and change your interest requirements at a later date confirming od course with Northern Rock that this will be OK. They seem a friendly bunch!

I did one transfer 5 minutes ago and its already showing in my NR account. It seems to work.
Take my advice at your peril.
