ok, so to my amazement my BT broadband contract has been renewed, no phone call like normal, or letter. Its 13 days in, was renewed on the 1/12/10.
now i want to cancel and move to a competitor and there saying I would have to pay £166 for cancellation fees. Is this normal practice, iv phoned them up and supposedly agreed to a rolling contract....which i defiantly have not been.
what steps can i take from here on in, they have sent the issue off to there own customer complaints team, apparently ill get a response in 48 hours, but I highly doubt that.
or is there no hope

upon phoning sky they told me they can phone BT and sort it all free of charge, no cancellation charges, is this believable lol
if there has been no phone call, or letter, and there's no proof a letter has been delivered, isnt bt in breach of its terms and condition0 -
im sure on the contract from BT i had, it stated,
"We will automatically re-new your contract, unless we hear otherwise"
So your stuffed , and I wouldnt trust Sly either !!0 -

No, it is not believable.
Sky might offer to reimburse you for those charges, but they cannot "tell BT not to impose them".0 -
hmmm, the guy clearly stated that would be the case, but i guess he must of mis understood what i said, ill ring again and see if they can clarify that claim lol,
as for the BT, Is there anyway of not paying a full years cancel charges for a contract starting 13 days ago0 -

BT will assert that at some stage, you agreed to a renewing contract. This would have been in return for including some free calls in your package.
So when the 12 months was up, another 12 months starts.
It is up to you, not them, to end that. Pass the end of the expiring period and you're now committed for another year. Yes, you can cancel, but that means you're breaching contract and so have to pay the fees.
Presumably, you were getting the free calls.
So what it all depends on is whether you agreed to the renewing contract (in which case, no, you can't escape - you agreed to this, and got the incentive/benefit) or not (in which case, just move away and refuse to pay the fees).0 -
I found out from BT when my contract is up & as soon as it is I am away from them like the proverbial loo house rat up a drainpipe! I am sick of their lies, double dealings & foriegn call centers.0

I got a letter from BT around 3 weeks before contract was due to renew, if they didn't hear from me it would go a head for another 12 month's. Never got a letter off them before though.0

yh i understand that im now stuck ion this sh*t, but its the manor its happened in, you would think somebody would make this clear, instead sneak it into the t and c's , ganna prepare for a big phone call tomo, see if they will budge,0

This happened to me and I questioned when I had agreed to this new contract? I asked them to check their call records as to when I had agreed to this new contact, CSR kept telling me I had agreed to this!!!!! surprisingly they could not locate my call so waived the £70 fee they were going to charge me...how nice of them!!!
I knew fully well I had not agreed to anything as I was due to sell my house (in two months time) so there was no way I would have renewed my contract for a further 18 months knowing full well that I would have been charged a cancellation fee. When I questioned this I asked the CSR if I should have been made aware that I was to be charged a cancellation fee, only to be told that they do not need to inform me about the canx charge!!!!!!!! My response was " well I find that absolutely disgusting that you don't have to tell me about the canx charge". I don't think the CSR knew what had hit her! Ask them to prove when you had agreed.....they won't be able to! and they won't charge you.Why did I not have the LBM years ago?LBM Dec 2008 -Debt total then £18,802.24. :eek:August 2010 - Student Loan £5526.Loan £5642 -£3000 saved towards final payment:)Balance Outstanding £8168.0 -
Havent BT and TT agreed to reduce the amount charged in cases like these, from whatever they would have collected if the contact has run its term, to a figure that reflects the actual cost of cancelling , and for BT call packages that was (I think) about £2 per month remaining on the contract, so how do they come up with £1660
